Celebrating 65 years of humans in space! Today on the International Day of Human Space Flight, we honor the first flight into space made by Yuri Gagarin in 1961, as well as the first Space Shuttle launch in 1981. The best is yet to come.

@jaycronin It would have certainly cooled down to near ambient temperatures by the time it hit the water. It was flying through thousands of feet of frigid air for several minutes before splash down.

@VirtualAstro Serious question - when it hit the cold water, why wasn’t any steam given off? Surely the craft would have carried some heat, as it had just been through the atmosphere & we were told the temp at that time was incredibly high.

While watching the ArtemisII Splash down yesterday evening, I was working on some shots for my new show. I can easily say, the CG planet Earth I was working on looks better than the one the astronauts could see out of their window 🤣 🤣 🤣

Photo of the Day: Earthset, captured on #GoPro 🌎 @NASA's Orion spacecraft captures the Moon and the Earth in one frame during the Artemis II crew’s deep space journey on the sixth day of the mission. The right side of NASA’s Orion spacecraft is seen lit up by the Sun. A waxing crescent Moon is visible behind it. And then, a crescent Earth, tiny compared to the Moon, is about to set below the Moon’s horizon on the right. Credit: NASA #NASA #Artemis #Moon #Space
