That one in a hundred case like the Atul Subhash case is one of the worst things to happen to women in India. It has given incels and pick-me people an excuse to bring it up every time someone is held accountable for misogynistic behavior. It is incredibly convenient for them to ignore the countless crimes committed against women every day and shift the focus to the one case where a woman was in the wrong.

उसका नाम विस्मया था। वह 24 वर्ष की थी और केरल के पंडालम स्थित मन्नम आयुर्वेद कॉलेज में अंतिम वर्ष की आयुर्वेद चिकित्सा की छात्रा थी। वर्ष 2020 में उसके परिवार ने उसकी शादी केरल सरकार में सहायक मोटर वाहन निरीक्षक (Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector) के पद पर कार्यरत किरण कुमार से कर दी। दहेज में उसके परिवार ने 100 सोवरेन सोना, एक एकड़ से अधिक जमीन और लगभग 10 लाख रुपये की एक कार दी थी। लेकिन किरण कुमार इससे संतुष्ट नहीं था। वह कार के माइलेज को लेकर शिकायत करता था और चाहता था कि उसे बेचकर उससे भी महंगी कार खरीदी जाए। मामले के अनुसार, शादी के तुरंत बाद दहेज को लेकर प्रताड़ना शुरू हो गई थी और यह लगातार जारी रही। मृत्यु से कुछ दिन पहले विस्मया ने अपने रिश्तेदारों को अपने शरीर पर पड़े चोटों और नीले निशानों की तस्वीरें भेजी थीं। उसने कई वॉइस मैसेज भी भेजे थे। एक संदेश में वह रोते हुए अपने पिता से कहती सुनाई देती है कि वह डरी हुई है, अब और सहन नहीं कर सकती, और यदि उसे वहीं रहने के लिए मजबूर किया गया तो वह उन्हें दोबारा कभी नहीं देख पाएंगे। 21 जून 2021 को, शादी के लगभग एक वर्ष बाद, केरल के कोल्लम जिले के शास्तमकोट्टा स्थित अपने पति के घर में विस्मया मृत पाई गई। उसके द्वारा भेजी गई तस्वीरें और संदेश इस मामले के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण साक्ष्य बने। केरल पुलिस ने 500 पृष्ठों की चार्जशीट दाखिल की और किरण कुमार को सरकारी सेवा से बर्खास्त कर दिया गया। मई 2022 में ट्रायल कोर्ट ने उसे दहेज मृत्यु, दहेज प्रताड़ना और आत्महत्या के लिए उकसाने का दोषी ठहराया। उसे 10 वर्ष के कारावास की सजा सुनाई गई। 2 जुलाई 2025 को सर्वोच्च न्यायालय ने उसकी सजा पर रोक लगाते हुए अपील की सुनवाई पूरी होने तक उसे जमानत दे दी। इससे पहले दिसंबर 2024 में उसे 30 दिनों की पैरोल भी मिली थी। उसकी अपील अभी भी लंबित है। विस्मया ने अपनी चोटों की तस्वीरें उन लोगों को भेजी थीं जो उससे प्रेम करते थे। वह मदद मांग रही थी इससे पहले कि बहुत देर हो जाए। ऐसी सत्यापित कहानियों के लिए हमें फॉलो करें, जिन्हें हर भारतीय को जानना चाहिए।

Women are human beings, not objects for entertainment... People need to understand that such behavior has consequences.... Technically even I am not cruel but he had to be removed. The comments technically reduced women to sex workers. No woman will feel safe with such mentality. The reason, men won't leave entitlement unless the face consequences. I have observed this in relationships too.
