Republicans truly do not care how many American citizens they kill... In the very same 2027 budget in which he calls for ballooning our already-bloated defense budget to $1.5 trillion, Trump is once again calling for the complete cutting of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). “For the sixth time, the Budget proposes to end this program,” the MAGA document states. It alleges that the life-saving program is in fact "unnecessary." Absurdly, the administration is arguing that Trump's policy agenda will lower energy prices enough to make up the difference for consumers. In reality, his Iran War is spiking the cost of oil and driving up the price of everything else. The Hill reports that as of February, Americans were paying over 11% more for gas utilities and 4.8% more for electricity than at the same time last year. “After sending prices skyrocketing with his stupid tariffs and reckless war, President Trump is now proposing to eliminate programs that help families afford the basics—like LIHEAP,” stated Democratic Senator Patty Murray. Cutting this program isn't about balancing anything, it's about freeing up more federal funds that can then be funneled to the rich through tax cuts and to the military-industrial complex through Pentagon spending. These proposed cuts grow even more infuriating when one considers the fact that Trump's is bending over backwards to support Big Oil, supercharging the climate change, which in turn creates more extreme weather events. Summers will be hotter, winters will be colder, and he wants to strip away people's ability to keep themselves alive as things worsen. Thankfully, the LIHEAP program has substantial bipartisan support because even some Republicans realize that cutting it will result in serious backlash from voters.
