His name was Ravindra Kaushik.
India called him the Black Tiger.
In 1975 RAW erased every record of his existence.
He was 23 years old.
He crossed into Pakistan as Nabi Ahmed Shakir.
Enrolled in Karachi University. Joined the Pakistan Army. Rose to the rank of Major.
For 8 years he sent India intelligence that saved 20,000 soldiers.
Indira Gandhi personally gave him the title Black Tiger.
In 1983 RAW sent a junior operative to contact him.
That operative was caught by ISI and broke under torture.
Ravindra’s cover was blown. Not by his mistake. By RAW’s.
He was arrested. Tortured for 2 years. Sentenced to death. Commuted to life.
From prison he smuggled one letter home.
Had I been an American I would have been the hero of many films.
But here I am just another forgotten number.
He died in Mianwali jail in 2001 at age 49.
Buried in an unmarked grave behind the prison.
