I was there among them… I lived this moment in every detail. I ran quickly toward that truck and suddenly found myself in the middle of a huge crowd. I couldn’t get any food—and at that point, I didn’t even want it anymore… I felt trapped. People were piled on top of each other. I was shouting and begging them to let me out. I didn’t want food—I just wanted to breathe. I was suffocating, and no one could hear me… everyone was only trying to survive. I tried to get out, but I fell to the ground. People stepped on my face, my body, my hands. I was in so much pain… I truly felt like those were my last moments, that I would lose my life there, just trying to get a little food for my family. In that moment, I thought of my family… waiting for me. I thought that I might return to them as a martyr, and that there would be no one left to take responsibility for them but me. I don’t know where the strength came from, but I stood up. It felt like adrenaline took over my body. I started pushing everyone in front of me with all my strength, just to get out of that deadly crowd. When I finally got away, I collapsed again… struggling to breathe, slowly coming back to life. I was completely exhausted, and I couldn’t believe I had survived. Those were incredibly hard days… we faced death and unimaginable suffering, just for a small piece of food.

As a child, I remember my mom constantly washing clothes. Every counter smelled like bleach. I thought it was excessive, but it’s not. Palestinians are experiencing biological warfare. They need disinfectants and soaps. Please help this brother today!

An old photo from days when life was simpler… before the war, at Al-Azhar University. It was my last lecture of the day, and I was getting ready to return home to Beit Hanoun, in the far north of Gaza. I was tired… but it was a beautiful kind of tired, the kind that came with ordinary days—without fear, without worry, without the heaviness we carry now. A tiredness that held the comfort of the road, the warmth of home, and hope for tomorrow. I miss those days… I miss their smallest details, their quiet noise, and a life that, despite its simplicity, was full of life.
