Each time Alberta has established an Electoral Boundaries Commission to redraw election maps the government has accepted the commission’s majority report, so I was surprised and disappointed to learn that a committee of MLAs has instead been tasked with creating a new map. /1

A new Alberta bill would establish a 120-day timeline for major project approval and make cabinet ministers more involved in the process. But as Sean Amato reports, some worry this will lead to an erosion of Indigenous consultation. #ableg #cdnpoli edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

@TheBreakdownAB Do you. I just think it’s an important fact to add, b/c some may not know. And I’m genuinely curious what legal pros think of this (because I don’t have the expertise to say if this is weird or not.)

@JSJamato The displeasure of multiple Chiefs that government lawyers allegedly met in private rooms with Rath (as told by one of those chiefs) isn't news worthy?

Alberta separation is gaining in popularity, according to long-term polling from Pollara. As Sean Amato reports, that comes as the richest man in the world and a comedic actor throw their support behind the province leaving Canada. #ableg #cdnpoli edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

Chiefs, First Nations citizens and federalists joined in a rally against Alberta separation in downtown Edmonton Wednesday. As Sean Amato reports, drums rang out as lawyers battled it out in a courtroom across the street. #ableg #cdnpoli edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

Gonna lose comments on this one. It's a shame so many people can't discuss, and respectfully disagree, without hate and racism.

First Nations Chiefs gathered in an Edmonton courtroom Tuesday, seeking an injunction against an Alberta separation effort. But as Sean Amato reports, a separatist lawyer is confident the premier will still find a way to approve a vote. #ableg edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

Kinda strange there is no Alberta flag outside of the Edmonton Law Courts, while a case regarding the province leaving Canada is heard inside. #ableg #cdnpoli

High prices at the pumps & new airline fuel surcharges have united the federal Conservatives and the Alberta NDP in calling for fuel tax cuts. But as Sean Amato reports, travellers and drivers are placing blame across the national border. #ableg #cdnpoli edmonton.citynews.ca/video/2026/04/…

And I get not everyone likes that. And not everyone likes me or my work. Fair enough. I’m imperfect. I’m also accountable and I’m here taking that heat. But I will not be unjustly accused of awful things I did not say and do not believe. Ever. Thanks everyone. Happy Easter!

Just a quick note to say thank you so much for all the support and kind messages I’ve received. It’s truly appreciated. I don’t want to fight anyone. I just want to do my job. Which, I believe, is to ask tough but fair questions of all who serve the public.

So why that line of questioning today? Surely you don’t believe that the images shown in the clip should be available to children without parental consent. Can you clarify why your coverage infers or outright says that we are “banning books” as some sort of nefarious hidden agenda ?

Great to see Minister Williams absolutely own NDP activist “reporter” @JSJamato who apparently thinks it’s super ok for kids to have access to explicit images without parental consent. Masterclass Dan! Well done.
Courtney Theriault@cspotweet

"I'm sorry this is for journalists today- is that a serious question from the media?" @JSJamato asks Minister Dan Williams if the UCP campaigned on library policy and muni code of conduct, with the minister pushing back claiming the question is a political motivated attack.

Your line of questions was clearly inferring the UCP decision to restrict pornographic books for kids is a nefarious endeavour that we never campaigned on. You ought to check with your legal counsel on what constitutes “fair comment” v. defamation. But if you’d like to play that game, I’d be happy to sit down and review with you and your news director your daily UCP attack ads (or news reports as you call them) over the last couple of years and we can chat about what actually constitutes slander and defamation. Consider it a standing invitation good sir.
