I had this epiphany studying computer security as a young college student that if you didn’t have to worry about bad actors, scammers, and criminals you wouldn’t need computer security and everything would just work together effortlessly and seamlessly. All hardware and software would just talk to all other hardware and software when and if it needed to. If you extend this to society in general, you realize how much internal friction our civilization has. people trying to take stuff that doesn’t belong to them or pretending to be people that they’re not... and then all the time and energy spent trying to prevent this. imagine how your car would work if car parts had to defend themselves against other car parts who were trying to pretend to be car parts they weren’t for the purpose of stealing energy or gasoline or whatever from other parts of the car. imagine all the security checks and configs you’d have to have in place just for the car to deliver power to the wheels. I still fantasize about some future of the human race or some aliens in another galaxy who don’t need security and compliance overhead because they just live the golden rule or believe in karma or whatever, and none of their time and energy gets spent having to defend themselves against others of themselves. We are nowhere close to that reality obviously but I still find it inspiring to imagine this whole other level of entropic potential where all energy and intelligence are spent moving forward.

As polarized as the country seems right now, realize they still have no idea how much of Trump's disapproval is because he's not nearly right-wing enough.
