Professor Rachel Blakely is turning her curiosity into discovery at CPP. 🦇🔍 What began as an opportunity to study bats in Australia has evolved into leading hands-on research with students through the Bat Advocacy and Tracking Society (BATS). Blakely also hosted CPP Bat Night, where guests had the opportunity to study live bats from the LA Bat Rescue, take a bat walk with echolocation detectors, and help build bat boxes. Later this semester, students will set up detectors at the Lyle Center to capture videos and record the calls of bats and nearby predators. By collecting consistent data across diverse ecosystems, the program aims to help protect #biodiversity and support California’s conservation goals. Currently made up of 39 monitoring locations, the network will grow to more than 110 sites through the CSU’s participation. 🔬

Ronni and Shepard Goodman met at #CSUN in the 1960s and spent a lifetime giving back, supporting the university and first-generation students. Their impact continues with a $10 million gift. Maple Hall is now named Ronni and Shepard Goodman Hall.
