This is ‘Johnson era’ says @FDAGenSec Trust between civil servants and Ministers is vital to ensure government works, when civil servants are thrown under the bus for political convenience, trust is eroded. Proud to work for this union standing up for civil servants.

"Come into government, work, and be thrown under the bus when it's politically convenient." @FDAGenSec tells @BethRigby what message the treatment of Sir Olly Robbins sends to other public servants.

As I told @ShelaghFogarty, Sir Olly Robbins outlined today that there's a reason the vetting process is kept separate from ministers - to protect the integrity of the process, and ultimately national security.

At the heart of this debacle we have seen the unceremonious dismissal of a public servant who, as I said to @ShelaghFogarty, has dedicated his career to the work of government and the protection of our national security.

The chill this has sent through the civil service is no surprise. Sir Olly's dismissal comes just two months after the PM sacked the Cabinet Secretary after extensive anonymous briefing. Government only works when there is trust between ministers and civil servants.
BBC Newsnight@BBCNewsnight

"The idea that he would dismiss [Olly Robbins] and the way that he dismissed him... sends a real chill through the civil service." Dave Penman, General Secretary of the FDA, says the PM is "losing the ability to work with the civil service." #Newsnight

@CompaniesHouse your systems are in disarray ! Today I received a letter telling me that I had failed to deal with verification ID, looking at the website the tale is different and states clearly that this was done. There is NO crossover with dates so what is your excuse?

Is forcing dominant websites such as Deutsche Bahn's int.bahn.de to show competitors' trains always a good thing? It can make things very hard for passengers, here's why...

With the UK now rejoining the Erasmus exchange programme, it’s worth recalling the blatant lie, repeated by Boris Johnson when he was PM, that Brexit would not mean leaving it. One among the many lies of the Leave campaign.

Just heard about an insane "tax avoidance" scheme being pitched to recruitment agencies, involving paying HMRC with a "bill of exchange". I'd think it was a joke if it hadn't come from an unimpeachable source. If you come across this, do get in touch in complete confidence.

Boris Johnson failed vetting, yet Theresa May appointed him Foreign Secretary. Dominic Cummings was never vetted, yet had free access to Government and Number 10. Quit trying to bring down Starmer.

Man’s girlfriend is very annoyed that the free press she champions, despite having emigrated to a dictatorship without one, is investigating her boyfriend for stuff she says people who aren’t her boyfriend, like Angela Rayner, should resign over.

Mandelson was sacked in September 25. Lebedev was given a peerage by Johnson against HOLAC and intelligent service advice. He’s still in HoL and stills owns The Independent and Standard newspapers. Tory hypocrisy on steroids. #SecurityVettingStatement
