This is Selection by Compliance. I've named it & defined it in 'Taking Control 3' for the first time in print. It's time we all used this phrase to describe what appalling practice is going on in some schools and trusts. Selection by Compliance is real. news.sky.com/story/pupils-e…

🚨 BREAKING: You asked AI to improve your writing. It changed what you were actually saying. New research just proved it. In a controlled study, heavy AI writing assistance led to a 70% increase in essays that gave no clear answer to the question being asked. Not unclear writing. Neutral writing. The kind that sounds polished but commits to nothing. Here's what makes this worse: Researchers took essays written in 2021 — before ChatGPT existed — and asked an LLM to revise them based on real expert feedback. The instruction was simple: fix the grammar. The model changed the meaning anyway. Every time. It can't help it. The training pushes toward inoffensive, agreeable, averaged-out text. That's not a bug they can patch. It's the objective function. And then there's the peer review finding. 21% of reviews at a recent top AI conference were AI-generated. Those reviews scored papers a full point higher on average. They also placed significantly less weight on clarity and significance — the two things peer review is supposed to evaluate. So we're not just talking about your email sounding a little corporate. We're talking about AI quietly flattening scientific discourse. Laundering opinions into non-answers. Replacing your voice with the mean of everyone's voice. The industry keeps asking: is AI-written content detectable? Wrong question. The right question is: what are we losing when a billion people let the same model edit their thinking?

Let's be honest about this @Ofstednews are the root cause of this, school leaders are terrified of not meeting OfSTED's targets and so game the system to do so. It's time to scrap OfSTED and return inspection to its safeguarding roots, time to end this edu carnage @bphillipsonMP

Wherever Reform UK goes, the same thing happens. Extremists get through, leaders look the other way, and critics are told to grow up. Scotland. Wales. London. The same story, every time. This is who they are. #ReformUK #MalcolmOfford #Scotland

🎈HELIUM SCARCITY… Hospitals worldwide perform millions of MRI scans, making MRI the single largest consumer of liquid helium (often cited as 15–30% of global demand). While MRI is usually closed loop—MRIs need to be refilled with helium over time (just like Freon leaks from air conditioners over time). Helium cannot be made—only extracted, & any loss is permanent. However, Iran just destroyed a $20 billion Qatar refinery, & the Strait of Hormuz is blocked. Helium also needed in quantum technologies. Helium already scarce. Helium shortages can delay scans, raise costs, or force prioritization of urgent cases. In respiratory: Heliox (a helium-oxygen mixture) reduces airway turbulence, easing breathing in conditions like severe asthma, croup, or upper airway obstruction. It is delivered via masks or ventilators and is particularly useful in pediatrics or emergencies, and there is no substitute for helium in Heliox. All this will not be good if we suffer an even greater shortage of helium / price spike of helium if the Iran conflict continues.

There is no neutrality in the face of evil. The russian war and genocide against Ukrainians have changed me. russians have killed three of my friends. They have beheaded, tortured, raped, and castrated thousands of my countrymen. They have destroyed the livelihoods of millions. I used to be much more tolerant and accepting of different points of view. But now my vision is more black and white. The war has become personal. The pain has become personal. When your family and friends are bombed every night for four years and your country is invaded, it becomes personal. I think every one of us has lost someone, either on the battlefield or when rockets or Iranian drones struck civilian infrastructure. Every day and night, there are explosions in the sky. You start your day reading reports about people hospitalized or killed because russian rockets destroyed civilian buildings. And one of those buildings could be where your loved ones or friends live. So when I meet someone who claims to be neutral regarding the russian war and genocide against the Ukrainian people, I hold them morally responsible for the atrocities committed by russians. There can be no neutrality in the face of evil. If you choose to remain neutral and silent, that is your choice. But that choice defines who you are. You are a coward, a silent supporter, and history will judge you as such. To conclude, I want to quote a few people who understood well that there is no neutrality in the face of evil: Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil; God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” Elie Wiesel: “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” Dante Alighieri (paraphrased): “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.”

Denmark is investing $83,754,486 in textbooks and turning away from its digital-first approach to education. This follows research showing that screens reduce concentration, impact mental health, and hurt student performance. Yet another dynamic to the EdTech debate.
