Being mesmerized when Aerith appears in the red dress, so nervous he even stumbles over his words. Making an association between Aerith and the description his mother gave him of his ideal girl, curiously that this memory resurfaced right after meeting Aerith. Wanting to spend more time with her when they say goodbye in the Sector 6 park, saying he'll walk her home even though he was supposedly in a hurry to leave and rejoin the others. Lying and hiding not once, but twice that he gave Tifa the flower, so she wouldn't think badly of him. Immediately denying when Aerith asks if Tifa or Jesse is his girlfriend, while when Tifa asks if there's something between them, Cloud doesn't deny anything and remains silent. Likewise, Cloud never denies when any NPC calls them a couple, nor does he deny or clarify anything in Kalm when Aerith states they were on a sort of date. But at the Gold Saucer, if Cloud is on his date with Yuffie, Aerith jokes that they're in a date, and Cloud immediately denies being on a date with Yuffie. He tells Aerith that she's being one-sided and wants his opinion on the matter when Aerith says he can't fall in love with her. He immediately wants to rescue Aerith when Shinra captures her, and he insists they go and focus on rescuing her, overlooking Barret's revenge and Tifa's guilty feelings. He sets aside his pride and asks for help for the first time by asking Barret at the Shinra Tower to take Aerith and escape while he buys them time. Asking if she still likes Zack and getting jealous of Zack to the point of insulting him simply because Aerith replies that she still likes him, and then acting so indignant that Cloud in Gongaga refuses to do a side quest just by hearing Zack's name, forcing Yuffie to do it instead. On his date with Aerith in the Gondola, getting nervous and tense when he catches her and realizes their faces are very close. Mustering his courage not only to take Aerith's hand but to intertwine their fingers, even though she might reject him because he assumes, and believes, that Aerith still likes Zack. That was a very bold move on Cloud's part because with Tifa he knows how she feels; he thinks Tifa tried to kiss him. But with Aerith, he has no idea what she's feeling, and on top of that, he's not even sure if Aerith has forgotten Zack or not. So, taking her hand, risking rejection—which is what he fears most, having suffered it his whole life—is a very brave move on his part, showing the genuine interest he has in Aerith that transcends his insecurity. He was mesmerized watching her sing. Wanting to fight with the photographer and complain about why he didn't choose them as the best couple in chapter 14 during the dream date. Being happy when Aerith tells him in that same chapter that she likes him and being disappointed when Aerith adds, "But there are different kinds of liking." Looking so devastated when Aerith dies. In the OG, when Bugenjaguen says that there's always something in the depths of their hearts, Cloud replies that he remembers Aerith a lot. That Aerith is one of the reasons he wants to fight for the planet and face Sephiroth, to thaw that smile; the special memory Cloud refers to when giving his reasons for fighting is that—it's Aerith. That in the end, Cloud receives an answer from the planet, that his wish is to find Aerith once more in the promised land. That in AC, he believes that Denzel is someone Aerith led him to, and only because of Denzel does Cloud rejoin his family, because before, when it was just Marlen and Tifa he didn't seem to care much about spending time with them. He never stopped accepting shipments even though Tifa would occasionally close the bar to spend time with him, and this was long before Elmira's shipment and before the guilt returned. It wasn't until Denzel arrived that he started spending more time with his family again, and when Denzel's condition worsened and he couldn't find a cure, Cloud distanced himself once more, ⬇️
