The governor’s race the most important, most advertised race on the entire ballot received roughly 100,000 fewer total votes than the controller and secretary of state races. On the same physical ballot. The exact numbers from the official SOS website: •Governor total votes: 796,467 •Controller total votes: 901,756 •Secretary of State total votes: 889,586 That means 105,289 more people voted for state controller than voted for governor. And 93,119 more people voted for secretary of state than voted for governor. Do you know what the state controller does? Most people don’t. It is one of the most obscure offices on the ballot. Yet it got more votes than the race that determines who runs the largest state in America for the next four years. All Republican governor candidates combined on election night: 222,712 votes Republican controller candidate (Herb Morgan): 302,552 votes Republican secretary of state candidate (Don Wagner): 291,650 votes That means roughly 70,000 to 80,000 people voted Republican in the controller and secretary of state races but did not cast a Republican vote for governor on the same ballot. These are not different ballots. These are not different voters. This is one piece of paper. Governor is at the TOP. Controller and secretary of state are further DOWN. People don’t undervote on the top ballot. They undervote on the bottom ballot. How does this make any sense? What am I missing people who are smarter than me?

Reminder: Last year, a woman in Orange County, CA was charged w/ felonies after she successfully registered her dog to vote in CA and casted multiple mail in ballots in the dog's name in CA elections. She was only caught because she turned herself in and her attorney said she wanted to "make a point". The dog's vote was successfully counted in the 2021 recall election of Governor Newsom, but the dog's ballot in the 2022 primary was rejected. Why the difference? According to the OC DA's office: "Proof of residence or identification is not required for citizens to register to vote in state elections nor is it required to cast a ballot in state elections. However, proof of residence and registration is required for first- time voters to vote in a federal election. As a result, the 2022 primary ballot cast in [the dog's] name was challenged and rejected." The woman, Laura Lee Yourex, has pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing. She has no prior criminal history. Prior to her arrest, she mockingly posted on social media that her dog, Maya Jean, had voted, and had continued receiving mail in ballots, posting photos of Maya Jean with her ballots.

@constans I feel like we’ve memory holed how Trump *was* moderate on a couple issues compared to most republicans in 2016. He didn’t support cutting social security, openly accepted the status quo on gay marriage and advocated for repeal and replace on the ACA (lmao).
