There are times when delay is the most dangerous form of decision. That is why I am proposing a Competitiveness Handshake today. The Council, the Commission and the Parliament must all commit to one simple principle: no new net burden on European businesses. We all need to commit to making the EU work better for business.

High-level discussion on European competitiveness today in Brussels, hosted by us and the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise, with EU Minister @Rosencrantz_J and EU Commissioner @VDombrovskis. The discussion focused on how the EU can achieve genuine simplification and burden reduction without compromising its strategic objectives.

”Europe needs more trade, within the internal market and with other countries globally. Europe needs to unleash more capital for investment in European companies.   Europe needs less extensive and complicated regulation.” @SwedishPM ahead of today’s leaders’ meeting on European competitiveness.

🇸🇪 @SwedishPM in @FT today on European competitiveness: - We need to be able to compete because of quality and because of innovation, not because we try to protect the European markets. - The basic idea of trying to protect European business, if that is the purpose of ”Buy European”, to try to avoid trading with or partner with other countries, then I’m very sceptical. - We do not want to protect European businesses that are basically not competitive. - There is absolutely a very fair and legitimate lack of patience right now in European business. - I think we should build more on Europe’s advantages.
