@wizpem it's nerdy but rateyourmusic is honestly a godsend. you can play around so much with genre filtering and get exposed to a lot of good stuff really fast then dig from there. it's not great for brand new unknown artists but you have to be in deep for that anyway

@dxmtsuya a lot of black metal is mediocre so if you get bad recs you could think the genre sucks. also 95% of people would never even consider listening to bm in the first place so a lot of listeners just miss out by default unfortunately
