Changing Dinosaur Planet to Starfox Adventures saved it from being lost in obscurity and became a lore expansion.

Here are my thoughts on Dinosaur Planet vs Star Fox Adventures 𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗜𝗣? Possibly, but that is entirely speculation. If all of the Star Fox aspects of the game were removed and Rare published the game with their original vision, it would be far from the best in the action-adventure genre, but still you would be left with a competent Zelda-like game. 𝗜𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘅 𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲? When people think of Star Fox, a high action, skill-based on-rails shooter taking down enemy spacecraft and intense dogfighting is what comes to mind. This game is not that. There are some segments of on-rails shooting, but most feel shoehorned in to “make the game Star Fox.” It’s honestly more like a Zelda game with the puzzles, dungeons, item collection, and melee combat (there’s even an “Item Get” scripted sequence that plays a jingle with Fox or Krystal holding the newly obtained item above their heads, just like Link). This game is mainly played with Fox McCloud. His blaster is conveniently removed at the beginning by orders of General Pepper, leaving Fox weaponless until shortly finding a staff for melee combat. A narrative and game mechanic choice (which honestly does not do the game any favors) is the eventual acquisition of a “sidekick,” Tricky, who you constantly protect and feed. This makes much of the game feel like a constant escort mission. As early as Star Fox 64, on-foot missions were conceived (an alternate on-foot boss fight with Andross was made but ultimately scrapped for the final product), and there was even a PvP mode where you could play as the main cast on foot and shoot at each other with blasters mounted on your shoulders. Having Fox playable outside of an Arwing was an idea from early in the franchise, and Star Fox Assault would go on to incorporate true missions with segments requiring the player to freely roam a map as Fox to shoot enemies with different guns. This concept is not foreign to the franchise, but has certainly not been implemented frequently and could be greatly improved upon. One thing the game does quite well is the item selection mechanic with the C stick. A player can seamlessly switch between item screens and make a selection without pausing or opening a cumbersome menu. So, regarding Star Fox Adventures, it’s not a good “Star Fox game,” but it’s an ok game with Star Fox in it. 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗮𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝘅 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲? Rare had what many consider to be 70-90% of a completed product before Nintendo recommended the change. After Nintendo’s involvement, what would have been an ambitious Nintendo 64 title became a GameCube release. Rare very well could have created a successful new IP, but that is, again, speculation. It could also be argued that by Nintendo becoming involved and changing the game to incorporate it into one of their established franchises, this gave the game some level of familiarity to fans, increasing sales. What cannot be dismissed is the objective impact this game had on the Star Fox series. Krystal is inarguably one of the most iconic characters for the franchise, and without Adventures there would be no Assault. 𝗜𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, This game stands out as one of the most unique titles in the series. It has plenty of flaws and doesn’t meet the expectations of most for what qualifies as a Star Fox game, but I personally think Nintendo made the right call in redirecting Rare with this title. With the new Star Fox remake releasing soon, my sincerest hope is that this is a total reboot for the franchise. I absolutely want Star Fox Adventures to receive the love of a completely reimagined and remade game that fixes the problems and annoyances of the original and expands upon the aspects that were good.

@HJAB007 It might not make you effected, but it effects female StarFox fans like me because she was one of the only female characters that have ever joined the team and made us not feel left out. StarFox now lacks with Female Representation…

@BringBackKrys It's just a fresh start now, but it doesn't mean anything. Krystal will return at some point, but from Nintendo's perspective, it wouldn't make sense for her to be in the Star Fox 64 remake; she has to appear later. There's also a rumor that Adventures is getting a remake too

@fimbultr0987147 Well people do a lot of that to other female Nintendo characters like Peach, Samus, and especially Pyra and Mythra and that didn’t stop them from keeping on including those characters in more games. Stop assuming they don’t like her cause of how the internet objectivize her…

@BringBackKrys Nintendo is scared of her, because she's attractive, and don't like she is quite prevalent in rule 34 content. Nintendo need to grow a damn pair and stop being afraid of attractive ladies.

It's mind-boggling that people actually say Krystal is not popular and there is no demand for her. Now, one thing I do admit is she's no longer at the peak of her popularity. That would have been around 2007-ish. But she is still more popular than the rest of the SF team easily.
