Patrick Ball talks about how Langdon's personal life might have changed these last ten months: “I think one of the strengths of the show and the one day format that John (Wells) and (R. Scott Gemmill) have set up is that it leaves a lot of room to wonder for the audience, and a lot of room for people to do their own detective work and write their own narrative on top of it. Langdon's been away for 10 months. Part of that has been going to rehab and began the process of recovery. Another part of that, he has been out of the Pitt, and he has been away from his job. You meet Langdon in Season 1, who, there are little cracks that you see. Him feeling like he needs to buy a dog in order to make things right at home. You can sort of wonder what all of that's about. He has two kids at home. He has a wife that does the bulk of caregiving while he understands his place in the world as being the the wage earner. And then that gets interrupted because he's not at work, and he's not earning and he's at home, playing a different role within the family for the first time. That I bet was a pretty complicated experience. And I think it's really a testament to John and Scott to not over explain that and leave room for people to wonder what that looks like.”
