As the grills fire up and flags wave across backyards from Tucson to the Jersey Shore, let’s remember what Memorial Day truly is.
It’s not just the unofficial start of summer, it’s the day we set aside to honor the Americans who never made it home, the young soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines who gave their last full measure so the rest of us could keep ours. They didn’t die for parades or sales or three-day weekends. They died for this country, for the idea that free people could live without fear, speak their minds, and chase their dreams.
So enjoy the burgers, the cold drinks, the laughter of your family. But, somewhere between the fireworks and the sunset, take a quiet moment. Say their names if you know them. Thank the families who still carry the weight of their empty chairs. And remember, the freedom you’re enjoying this weekend was bought with blood on distant battlefields and lonely graves.
That’s the American way: celebrate hard, but never forget who paid for it.
God bless those who fell, and God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸
