I haven’t seen anyone with my take, so at great personal risk, I’m wading in: - I have this ick - I have played & enjoyed video games in the past - I adore my husband, he’s the best - I’m a lib I want him to have fun and relax, but playing video games is a massive ick, (and I struggle with this!) I think it’s because it’s a total waste of time, and it means he’s not doing something else I *know* he wants to be doing: the workshop sitting unused, the language learning app he bought a lifetime membership to, the books he wants to read, the walls he wants to climb, etc. If he’s playing with friends, they don’t talk about anything other than the game (he says he doesn’t view it as bonding; it’s just like… a thing to do). If he’s playing by himself, he loses all sense of time and is liable to spend way more time gaming than *he says* he wants to. And that lack of control is a big turn-off for me With almost any other leisure activity, there’s some upside, and when he does those things I think it’s extremely hot. When he plays video games, it’s ick. Not permanently. Just until he does something hot again The only notable exception is that he brings his Switch when we travel. My libido/brain feels entirely neutral about that, presumably because you can’t really waste time on an airplane (?) My abortion is the kind people love to judge the most. I wasn’t underage, I wasn’t assaulted, and there was no medical emergency. I got pregnant because I knowingly had unprotected sex, no accident, no rare failure, just my own choices. By their standards, it was “irresponsible.” I knew abortion was an option, and I took it. Not because I couldn’t survive it or raise a child, I simply didn’t want one. I wanted sex without becoming a parent, and I chose not to carry the pregnancy. There’s no redemption arc here. I don’t regret it. Nothing terrible happened to me afterward, no punishment, no downfall. My life is still good. And that reality alone challenges everything people like to assume about women who make this choice.

They rebuilt Japan and Germany after defeating them in war. They stood down the Soviet Union, even as the world jeered them. They sent soldiers to places like Vietnam and Afghanistan that died TRYING to create a better world (even if you disagree with those wars, the intentions were fairly good) And they sent more missionaries to the world than maybe any other country in history. Translated more Bibles into indigenous languages than any other country in history. Ran bigger charities than any other country in history. Created more Christian resources than any other country in history. Whether it was stopping the Dutch from reconquering Indonesia to the Berlin Airlift to giving Cuba its freedom in the Spanish-American war to saving China from the Japanese America has at least ATTEMPTED to do good with its power. Yes yes, America has problems. People are imperfect. But goodness gracious does the world have a lot to be grateful for in America. And when we could have taken SO much from the world we have often chosen not to. Rome, Britain, Mongols, Assyrians, Soviets, Chinese, no other group has ever shown the restraint America has consistently shown with such vast power at its fingertips. We didn't even get into the GIGANTIC technological advances, consumer advances, convenient lifestyle changes America has pioneered. From electricity to space to the light bulb to the smart phone to many cures in medicine and agriculture to the airplane the world has been enormously blessed by America.

If all of these people were just thrown in a cage forever and forgotten about, the rest of us could live in peace. That's a fact. You could essentially solve the crime problem, almost completely, by arresting the tiny minority of the population that commits basically all of it. Instead we let them roam the streets, continually release them back into the public, and watch helplessly as they kill, rape, and destroy, even though nobody on Earth can explain why this system makes sense, or is fair, or moral, or just.
