Celestia Mammothon App Breakdown #5: Genartz @genartzcom aims to become the one-stop shop for generative art collections on @Formachain. From creating your own p5.js based art, to exploring & discovering collections, Genartz looks to make the whole process seamless. What is Genartz aiming to solve: Genartz was part of the following Forma track: So let's look at how Genartz enables this "wallet-driven personalization" feature, while also taking a look at some of the other problems they're looking to solve, specifically around removing technical complexities for artists. 1️⃣ Metadata as a Creative Tool Most NFTs contain metadata, which is just extra info about the NFT, such as the image URL, artist name, and unique traits (e.g., background color). Traditionally, this metadata is static, meaning artists can’t easily modify or repurpose it without advanced technical skills. However, Genartz allows artists to use metadata from existing NFT collections, launched on Forma, to generate entirely new, fully onchain art. This means artists can: ✅ Pull traits from multiple NFT collections (e.g., remix @MammothOverlord & @triflelife into a new generative piece). ✅ Generate personalized generative art based on wallet holdings (your onchain assets influence how the artwork is created). For example, someone's art could be influenced (change in shape or color) based on whether or not the person holds a @CelestineSloths habitat. ✅ Create fully onchain art that evolves with metadata (future updates could dynamically change art based on new chain data - you purchased a Habitat, for example). While Genartz delivered on the task highlighted by Forma, the team also helped remove technical complexities for artists in the following ways: 2️⃣ Deploying Smart Contracts Is a Major Barrier To publish a collection, artists typically need to write & deploy a smart contract, which is done using Solidity or some other blockchain programming language. With Genartz, artists don’t need to write Solidity or worry about contract deployment - they automate the process. 3️⃣ Most NFTs Are Just Links to Offchain Images Traditionally, NFTs don’t actually store art onchain. Instead, they just link to an image hosted elsewhere, such as AWS. This means that if the external server goes down, so too does your NFT, whereas Genartz enables fully onchain generative art, or "onchain generativity". Here's how that works: 1️⃣ Artists write their p5.js code to define how art is generated. 2️⃣ Genartz converts the code into two parts: (1) JavaScript for real-time previews & offchain rendering, and (2) Solidity to store & execute logic directly onchain. According to the Genartz founder, "the p5.js to Solidity flow uses @Formachain's precompile, and we've built a custom p5.js wrapper for that". 3️⃣ When an NFT is minted, the Solidity contract runs the p5.js logic, generating the artwork onchain. & as mentioned, everything will be done from within the same platform.
