English

@CodeRed_dev because roguelikes are awesome
i like roguelikes
i want more roguelikes
English

@CodeRed_dev This is a roguelike.
Picking cards to randomise a playthrough does not make a game a roguelike.

English

@CodeRed_dev ...and AAA is so incredibly innovative with >50% being an FPS or Third-person Action shooter?

English

@CodeRed_dev but they are all different roguelikes...
roguelike is barely a genre, it's more like a very loose set of game mechanics that can be attached to any genre
that's like making a pie chart of "games where you control a character" and oh look it's like 95% boo
English

@CodeRed_dev Heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
It’s actually roguelike deck builders.
English

@CodeRed_dev Roguelikes are one of the simplest ways of solving the problem of replayability and content. A lot of what would be considered problems are taken as normal (metaprogression gating) and the random nature of it gets people into trying more runs to find "the fun".
English

@CodeRed_dev Hey I’m innovative. Whats more innovative than a genre 40+ years old with over 10,000 games
Wishlist Wicked Boy@Gutterspawn
New mechanics drop: • Turtle riding via gust power 🐢 • Fishing up keys 🎣 • Unlockable chests 🎁 What else should I add to ponds scattered through out the levels? #indiedev #gamedev #pixelart #screenshotsaturday #platformer #retro #Steam #wishlist
English

@CodeRed_dev Rouge-lite it's just the simplest way to make poorly balanced game interesting. Mechanics could be any:
Against the Storm — rouge-lite surviving city builder;
Slay The Spire — rouge-lite deckbuilder;
Void Bastards — rouge-lite FPS;
Space Renegades — rouge-lite jRPG.
English

@CodeRed_dev "Roguelike" means nothing . It's not a genre. Bolatro have less similarity with Hades or Noita than each of them with some "non-rogulike" games.
The only more meaningless word than "roguelike" is "indie" - solodev game with zero budget is indie same as Expidition 33
English

@CodeRed_dev Roguelike is basically such a wide catch all, it's like saying most indie games have controller support. It doesn't mean anything and absolutely doesn't limit innovation.
English

@CodeRed_dev But roguelikes are all different from each other. The Binding of Isaac and Aethermancer aren't even remotely close to each other, for example
English

@CodeRed_dev It's not just what people buy but what people don't finish fast enough to refund. I can't remember the specific case but there was a big story about a guy who had is 1-hour story game sell like crazy but then was refunded en masse despite good reviews.
English

@CodeRed_dev My game is not the roguelike game!

Ringash | Demo on Steam@RingashGame
Not Soulslike. Not Roguelite. Just Stylish Combat. We just hit 3K followers. Thank you all for the support!
English

@CodeRed_dev Mine is innovative. How many party based isometric roguelikes where exploration and battle occur on the same map are there?
English

@CodeRed_dev tormented souls, stardew valley, abiotic factor, balatro, decieve inc, hollow knight,schedule 1, shadows of doubt, subnautica,valheim , white knucle just out of the top of my head
English

@CodeRed_dev It doesn't help that roguelikes are a wibbly wobbly genre. XD
* Turn-based ASCII random dungeon crawler? Roguelike.
* Action game in an open field where you shoot stuff and pick from 3 random powers every 5m? Roguelike.
* Any random gen? Slight whiff of permadeath? Roguelike.
English

@CodeRed_dev indie devs when they don't have one creative or useful bone in their body:
pixel art
2d
turn based
CARDS
English

@CodeRed_dev Wrong, it's what Steam player buy. Customer is always right, etc. etc.
English

@CodeRed_dev Or you only follow who makes Roguelikes.
English

@CodeRed_dev Why make an entire game when you can make 3 levels and force the players to repeat them over and over and over again while getting praised?
English

@CodeRed_dev What a self report on not knowing how the indie scene looks like
English

@CodeRed_dev so you look at balatro and enter the gungeon and think "wow. same game??"
but 100 first person shooters with different color gun is fine 🙄
English

@CodeRed_dev this definition unfortunately have seeped into pretty much any genre I see that is indie :/
personally, I miss the classic progression long form games so I’m sticking with that
English

@CodeRed_dev The reason indie devs make roguelikes is because you can make a fun and polished game with 20+ hrs of playtime in 1/10th or less of the time it would take you to build just a 20hr playtime story game
Indies have less budget and therefore less time to work with
English

@CodeRed_dev Roguelike's definition has gone completely out of control. I think a game having a permadeath aspect doesn't automatically make it a roguelike, but that's what it gets treated as. Tbh most "roguelikes" are more like arcade games than anything
English

@CodeRed_dev To be fair "roguelikes" covers a lot of ground. A roguelite can be merged and adapted to any genre of game.
English

@CodeRed_dev Sorry but I want more roguelikes. It's just so fun. 🤷♂️
