So much ignorance in the comments. It is the choice of Iranian flag which is the problem here. FIFA has made it clear that the pre-revolutionary flag (1907 -1979) will not be permitted in World Cup stadiums. Iranian fans can take the Iranian flag into the stadium. It just needs to be the permitted Iranian flag. This same stance was taken by FIFA for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, although it is expected that FIFA officials will be more stringent in enforcing the ban this World Cup
