USPS noted some progress as its controllable loss/income (i.e. loss/income w/out pension and workers’ compensation expenses, which USPS defines as out of their control) fell from -$350M last July to -$182M this July.

In April, #USPS's revenue increased (+1.8% YTD) while volume fell (-5.2% YTD) and expenses inched up (+0.5% YTD). Package volume and revenue both grew, while other mail items (like letters, marketing mail) lost volume but had higher revenue.

April prelim financial results are in for #USPS: $53M net loss, a lot less than planned (-$291M) or last April’s (-$641M). A big part of that lower net loss was a big swing in workers’ compensation non-cash expense from a $35M expense last April to a $623M benefit now.

An act of Congress on May 24, 1888 declared that eight hours constituted a day's work for letter carriers and that a letter carrier was entitled to extra pay for working more than eight hours.
