Societies shouldn’t organize power in such a manner that appeasing a handful of petulant children lest they withhold capital is its primary ethos. The 5% tax is a generous attempt to maintain the unsustainable a bit longer but these guys are too solipsistic & greedy to realize it

live in Texas, where the seizing of assets is met with a “vibrant” response. … and I could easily live and deploy capital in Tokyo, Abu Dhabi or Singapore if America no longer wants an angel investor who backs 100+ startups a year!

Zohran’s victory is an earthquake. The left everywhere must dedicate itself to an insurgency against Dem incumbents. The Dem establishment has lost credibility w/ its base in the face of fascist threat. The base is looking leftward for new leadership. We are the opposition party.

I think it's rude to over-generalize, but my opinion of a lot of left-wing media is unfortunately well-summarized by these two facts: 1. The Chapo guys refused, repeatedly, to talk to me and Ezra after we were pitched for their show during the abundance tour. 2. Now, Will insists that my inviting Mamdani on my show to discuss our political disagreements (like, half the podcast is about how we don't see eye to eye on housing policy and transit costs) amounts to my total capitulation to the tenets of democratic socialism. If you think the only way to talk to somebody you disagree with is to first surrender to them, you don't have a theory of persuasion. You have a theory of insularity and insecurity. Anyway, Mamdani was really wonderful to talk to, and we still disagree about housing, rent freezes, transit costs, public sector unions, the degree to which NYC's problems are principally a function of insufficient spending, etc. It's okay to have conversations with people you think are wrong and who think you're wrong. It's fine! Not that painful. Kinda fun even.

Life is precious. Work sucks. The saying “if you died today they’d replace you tomorrow” has been at the top of my mind the last few months. #Mickey17 is a reminder that we are more than our work. To be patience & kind to ourselves, even versions of ourselves we don’t recognize.

This is a delicate moment. It’s a new day and yet so many are on edge. Our politics are inflamed, and social media only adds to the anxiety. It seems that @elonmusk made an awkward gesture in a moment of enthusiasm, not a Nazi salute, but again, we appreciate that people are on edge. In this moment, all sides should give one another a bit of grace, perhaps even the benefit of the doubt, and take a breath. This is a new beginning. Let’s hope for healing and work toward unity in the months and years ahead.

A GLAAD study showed anti-trans ads have no real effect on voter choice, mobilization, or likelihood to vote. All they do is increase discrimination, which explains why so many Dems are coming out today to cast off trans people. They're admitting the ads worked on them!
