From today, patients will have access to cheaper medicines as 60-day dispensing comes into effect. This is a big win for consumers, who will be able to save precious time and money amid a cost-of-living crisis.

The National Party's proposed disallowance motion is nothing but a cruel attempt to rip half-price medicines away from patients just days after it starts. Sixty-day dispensing will deliver significant savings to patients and should not be subjected to these political games.

AMA President Prof Steve Robson wrote to Min. Mark Butler earlier this year asking for the govt to implement independent advice from 2018 that patients be able to access 60-days' of certain medicines. After prolonged advocacy we finally saw the Senate vote to make this happen.
