Beyond the meaty economic and demographic shifts on their side, belonging to a group with considerable international representativeness can be seen as a status symbol in itself, and the BRICS can thus be considered as a decisive prestige factor in global politics. Today on „A Fondo“ we talked about the war in #Iran and its broader geopolitical implications - for #NATO, the Gulf region, and whether #Russia stands to benefit from it. Spoiler: 🇷🇺 benefits from a moderate disruption, not a full-scale escalation. Beyond the immediate conflict, this war reflects a deeper transformation. It is part of a wider and often violent renegotiation of the international order—shaping future power structures, norms, and institutions. History shows that such transitional phases are rarely peaceful. Shifts in power tend to generate tension, competition, and, too often, conflict. As an international community, we have yet to develop effective mechanisms to manage these transformations in a cooperative and institutionalized way. To put it more bluntly: When one world order ends and a new one emerges, sparks fly at first—before new rules take shape. The critical question remains whether reason and strategic rationality will prevail (#BRICS?)—and whether escalation on a global scale can be avoided. Militärisch macht es m.E. keinen Sinn. Die Europäer können (fast) nichts, was die Amerikaner nicht auch – und besser – können. Ich sehe Folgendes: 1. Er nutzt die Gelegenheit, um den Europäern nochmals eins auszuwischen, weil er sie prinzipiell zum Kotzen findet – und das Gefühl beruht wohl auf Gegenseitigkeit. Allen Schleimereien der Europäer zum Trotz. 2. Er sammelt Punkte bei dem Teil seiner Anhänger, die die Europäer für Free Rider halten. 3. Wenn es länger dauert: Die Europäer sind selbst schuld und sollen in den nächsten Monaten nicht über hohe Energiepreise meckern. Sie hätten ja für die Öffnung von Hormus kämpfen können. 4. Es ist natürlich immer toll, wenn man in das eigene Totalversagen andere hineinziehen kann, denn je mehr Hände im Brei rühren, desto besser.

Eine Entblößung des Irankrieges ist auch die Handlungsunfähigkeit der BRICS plus (Brasilien, Russland, Indien, China, Südafrika plus) angesichts des völkerrechtswidrigen Krieges der USA und Israels. Die Interessen sind in dieser Sache zu unterschiedlich, um zu einer gemeinsamen Bewertung zu kommen. Dabei ist Iran seit 2024 Mitglied dieser Gruppe. So unterhält Indien enge Beziehungen zu Israel und sucht eine Verbesserung der Beziehungen zu den USA. Die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate, ebenfalls MItglied der BRICS plus ist Opfer iranischer Angriffe. Ist das schon eine Entzauberung dieses Ecksteins einer multipolaren Weltordnung?
