I purposely planted alder buckthorn in a new mixed, native hedgerow in 2021, with the sole intent of boosting brimstone butterfly numbers on the farm. This year, I found their caterpillars happily feeding on the plants 😍 @savebutterflies @BC_WestMids

The allotment is finally looking something like decent. A glut of strawberries incoming!! And the grassland around the newly planted fruit trees is looking great as well. Worth the hard work this winter 🙂 Family of redstart on the farm this evening too! ♂️♀️ & 3 juv.

@joshual951 Coterill Clough is CWT. Lovely woodland in there 🙂 We've got some hazel plots at Quarry Bank, just the other side of the runway, so will have a look for it.

Absolute shocker to find Toothwort (Lathraea squamaria), a rare and completely parasitic plant, at Manc Airport the other day. It hasn’t been seen here since 1965, while it now has only a single stronghold left in Cheshire 😨😍🌱

@AdamLinnet1 Oh gosh, were you standing near us, small world at times. We really enjoyed it too. We were chatting to one of the organisers, he was at the Manchester celebrations last night and showed us photos.

GSW drumming and willow tit calling as I rolled a trough up a field this morning. Feeling spring like! 🙂 Cows should be arriving later 🐂 The first aftermath grazing the fields have had in about 20yrs! Exciting to see how the wildflowers react to the reduced thatch 🌸🌼

This Local Wildlife Site in Crewe was in dire need of action for swifts: 450 pairs down to 50! Luckily, residents have stepped up!! Look at that density of swift boxes! 😀 Time will tell, but I'm confident we will see breeding pairs returning to this site in future years.

No flowering plants for #NewYearPlantHunt as I went soil sampling around the farm. However, I did find a dozen bee orchids rosettes in the lawn 🙂

Started prepping a hedge for laying today and coppiced some hazel poles from another hedge for stakes. Flushed 22 snipe from one of the meadows and had a goshawk fly over 🙂
