Hard to believe this was beautiful Hunter Vally farmland before BHP turned it into an export coal mine

Labor is today saying that it is "the bush that benefits most" from net zero. But it has been the bush that has been HURT the most from our obsession with net zero so far. More than 90% of our emissions reductions have come from converting land (mostly farmland) from productive use to trees (although in reality mostly this becomes just unmanaged scrub). All up 7.2 million hectares of land has been lost already - more than the size of Tasmania. That takes farming out of small towns meaning fewer jobs, less business and depleted communities. Meanwhile, our emissions in the cities (from driving, flying and building) have not changed. Why should the people in the bush have to suffer through lectures from inner city elites about net zero, when those same inner city elites have not cut their own emissions? The Nationals believe in a FAIR GO on climate. Any reductions in emissions should be spread fairly by encouraging businesses to increase efficiency, not taking away our nation's productive capacity or imposing taxes and regulations.
