Our staff refused to walk away. When funding cuts closed 13 Alight health facilities, staff stepped in with time, money, and resources. Facilities are re-opening to serve 15,000 patients, 400 mothers, and 3,500 children facing drought, conflict, and displacement.

Happy International Women's Day! How did you celebrate?

The Horn of Africa continues to face an unprecedented drought crisis — affecting over 36 million people across Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, with millions struggling for water, food, and livelihoods. These conditions deepen hunger and displacement if urgent action isn’t taken.

Today, on the International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM, we stand with communities to affirm that FGM violates girls’ human rights. Protecting girls is a shared responsibility. #Invest2EndFGM #EndFGM #ZeroToleranceForFGM

In the Horn of Africa, millions have been forced from their homes — with over 10 million people internally displaced across the region due to conflict, climate disasters, and drought. Every number represents lives in transition and the urgent need for lasting solutions.

At Alight, we don’t design solutions for communities. We build them with people — through co-creation that centres lived experience and leads to stronger, lasting outcomes.

Last month, Alight participated in the construction handover alongside partners, supported by @GPforEducatio. Through the construction of schools, girl-friendly spaces and latrines, learning conditions are improving for children, particularly girls and those with disabilities.

Prolonged drought is devastating livelihoods in Somalia. 4.4 million people are at risk of hunger, including 1.85 million young children facing acute malnutrition. Communities need urgent support now and sustained solutions for the future.

In Las Anod, women are turning skills into opportunity. 80 women completed vocational training at Alight’s Women's Safe Space, strengthening livelihoods and independence, with support from BHA.

At Alight, we work alongside women to build practical, culturally fitting skills that meet real market demand. Through hands-on training, business basics, and seed funding, women turn their skills into sustainable income for themselves, their families, and their communities.

Homes are more than structures — they carry culture, resilience, and identity. In Digaale IDP Settlement, we’re co-creating climate-adaptive, dignified homes with displaced communities.

Ending gender-based violence takes all of us. Through EMAP (Engaging Men in Accountable Practices), Alight facilitates year-round conversations with men on responsibility, respect, and standing up for women and girls. #16DaysOfActivism #NoExcuse
