a humbling experience: a lesson goes badly (students are confused). you replan a different lesson with the same learning objective for the afternoon classes. students are still confused.

I hardly use this site any more, but in some personal news for my friends on here-- I'm pregnant, due in September, and planning on taking a one-year mat leave/sabbatical. 🐣

@benjaminjriley @mpershan imo, the goal of reading is clear: be able to read fluently and with comprehension. the goals of math are less agreed upon-- do you prioritize fluency? problem solving? perseverance? conceptual understanding? how you teach is informed by what you consider the most important

I am drowning in school stuff but there are like five articles I've seen that ask if (hope that) there will be a "science of reading" movement of equal significance for math. Friends, there will not.

I want students to be able to justify that vertical angles are congruent (which is also their intro to mathematical proof). Any ideas on activities to scaffold this? #mtbos #iteachmath #geomchat

@Dsrussosusan Ah but measuring them isn't the same as proving they're always equivalent.. I want to use this to intro the idea of a formal proof

@AnkerMath How are they with protractors? A lesson like that might be a good way to practice that skill. Have them all draw a X,then measure the angles.
