This Saturday there is an election for Chairman of the Virginia Beach Republican Party. Any registered Virginia Beach voter can participate. It runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Princess Anne High School. I’m supporting Lance Lesher. I don’t dislike Laura Hughes—far from it. But some of the people in her orbit have gone out of their way to be nasty. It’s one thing to disagree. It’s another to publicly attack people simply for supporting someone else—especially someone like Lance, a retired Captain whose character is not in question. What I can’t stand about our party is this: there’s always a faction that demands 100% loyalty. If you agree with them 80–90% of the time, that’s not good enough—you’re labeled a RINO and treated like the enemy. The worst attacks I’ve taken in my political life haven’t come from Democrats. They’ve come from Republicans. At least when Democrats attack you, they call you a name and move on. When it comes from your own side, it’s personal. It lingers. It turns into grudges, backroom undermining, and an effort to tear you down completely—all because you didn’t fall in line. Watch the comments on posts about this race. You’ll see exactly what I mean. Republicans attacking Republicans harder than they ever go after Democrats. And then we wonder why Democrats keep winning. It’s not complicated. A party that would rather tear itself apart than work with people they agree with 85% of the time is going to lose.

We are raising weak boys—and our school policies are doing it by design. In today’s schools, it doesn’t matter who started it. It doesn’t matter who threw the first punch. It doesn’t matter if a kid is defending himself after being shoved, mocked, or hit. The rule is simple: if you fight back, you get punished. Same suspension. Same label. Same record. So what are we actually teaching boys? We’re teaching them to stand there and take it. We’re teaching them that defending themselves is wrong. We’re teaching them that authority will punish them for having a backbone. And then we wonder why so many young men grow up hesitant, passive, unsure of themselves. This isn’t about promoting violence—it’s about recognizing reality. There is a clear difference between being the aggressor and defending yourself. Schools used to understand that. Now, under these zero-tolerance policies, that distinction is gone. When a boy knows he’ll be punished either way, the system is telling him: don’t resist. That’s not discipline. That’s conditioning. You don’t build strong men by teaching boys to submit. You build strong men by teaching judgment, accountability, and the right to stand up when it matters. Right now, our schools are doing the opposite—and the consequences are coming.

Virginia Democrats are pushing us one step closer to eliminating the intent and purpose of the electoral college. Allocating Virginia’s 13 votes for president to the winner of the national popular vote if this “compact” is ratified. Funny thing is - if this had existed in 2024 - Virginia’s 13 votes would have went to Trump. So would have California’s 52 votes and New York, Minnesota, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont - all of their votes. There would not have been one state in the country that would have given Harris a single electoral vote. Funny thought. Here’s something even more funny. States can’t do this without Congressional consent. It’s called the Compact Clause. All these Democrat states thinking they can usurp the Electoral College never read the constitution apparently. Par for the course for Virginia Democrats that just voted for this.

House Bill 1263 just passed the General Assembly. Collective bargaining is coming to localities. Let’s talk about what that actually means. Take Virginia Beach. Roughly a $2 billion annual budget, and most of that is payroll—teachers, police, fire, city staff. Now assume something very basic: unions come in and negotiate just a 5% across-the-board increase. That’s approximately $100 million more per year. Where do you think that money comes from? I can promise you—it’s not coming from Richmond. It’s coming from your real estate taxes. In Virginia Beach, one penny on the real estate tax rate raises about $9 million. So to cover $100 million in new spending, you’re looking at roughly a $0.11–$0.12 increase. On a $400,000 home, that’s about $450–$500 more per year per family. Rinse and repeat for every jurisdiction in Virginia. This is what “making Virginia more affordable” meant when Democrats ran on this in 2025.

Dirty politics in play here. Let's get into the weeds. Delegate Kelly Fowler files a bill to amend Virginia Beach City Government charter to a 10-1 voting district. She puts an emergency clause on it - which FAILS because 4/5 of the General Assembly do not vote for it. So it goes to the Governor without an emergency clause - meaning - that it becomes law on July 1. Except... Gov Spanberger sends a Gov's Recommendation down which adds an emergency clause to the bill. The General Assembly passes the recommendation on party line votes (not 4/5) - and the bill becomes effective immediately. This is a dirty work around to the Virginia Constitution. Its not legal - and Virginia Beach should sue to challenge the enforceability of this bill. It can be law - but not until July 1. I don't mind the charter changing - voters voted for it - but to enact the change under emergency legislation - when 4/5 of the general assembly did not vote for it - is nothing short of ILLEGAL. The VA Constitution is nothing more than an inconvenience to Democrats intent on bypassing and flatly ignoring what the Constitution says when it is in their way.

A lawsuit has been filed by my office against Virginia Beach Public Schools after a four-year-old child with cerebral palsy was injured getting off a school bus. This child had a written transportation plan requiring staff assistance and use of a lift to get on and off the bus. Instead, she was allowed to exit the bus without assistance and fell from the top of the steps, causing facial injuries. This was a handicapped bus - with a driver and two bus assistants. How could this happen??? This is a child with known needs. A documented plan. And it wasn’t followed. We are demanding an immediate investigation into: • Who was responsible on that bus • Why the transportation plan was not followed • Whether other children are being put at risk This lawsuit is about accountability — and making sure this does not happen again to this child or any other. Disabled children are the most vulnerable in our society and deserve the highest level of protection and supervision.

Here’s the reality of how a bill becomes law in Virginia—because a lot of folks get this wrong: Once the General Assembly passes a bill, it goes to the Governor. Under Article V, Section 6 of the Virginia Constitution, the Governor has a limited window to act. She can sign it, veto it, or recommend amendments. But here’s the key part—if the Governor does nothing within the constitutional deadline, the bill automatically becomes law. No signature required. So when you hear people say “the Governor hasn’t signed it yet,” that doesn’t mean it’s dead. In Virginia, inaction is approval.

For all the Democrats out there that stood outside and protested at no kings rallies. Here’s something for you to think about. Today the Democrat general assembly just exempted themselves from gun laws that they are imposing on citizens. That is as tyrannical as it gets and absolutely something that a king does. Since you probably all still have your signs, I would love to form a rally to stand on the street corner with you to protest this before I go I will stop by Burger King and grab a crown and we can protest together against something that is clearly and us versus them Let me know when you’re ready.

Back in 2013 Republicans in Virginia had the votes and the maps to redraw congressional districts and wipe Democrats off the board. The plan passed the Senate and could have been pushed through the House. But Speaker Bill Howell shut it down and said that kind of raw partisan power grab wasn’t the Virginia way. At the time Democrats praised Republicans for showing “political courage” and respecting the integrity of the process. Fast forward to today and those same Democrats are doing the exact opposite. They’re openly trying to redraw maps to eliminate Republican seats and flip the balance of power. Same tactic they once condemned. Turns out “political courage” only mattered when Republicans had the power.

It’s ok to publicly disagree with President Trump. I do it often. However - I am still a Republican - despite some ultra right folks claiming otherwise. Having said that - Bob Good crosses the line here. I know what it feels like to have President Trump endorse my opponent. It’s happened and it caused me to lose an election. Bob Good publicly went sideways with Trump. Good endorsed DeSantis and said Trump was bad for Virginia. How can you expect the president not to endorse your opponent? That’s politics dummy. Grow up Bob. You made your bed - now lay in it like a man. We are both former office holders - for literally the same reason. President Trump is not perfect - but he is doing 10000% better than Harris would be doing.

Hb43 has passed the General Assembly and waiting for the governor to enact. This is step one of a two step process to make physician assisted suicide legal in Virginia next year. Part 2 comes next year. If you are old - and your kids don’t like you - you might want to think about moving out of Virginia before next year. 😂

This campaign announcement could not make the point better. The proposed VA7 is the lobster district. Almost every county is red except Arlington, Fairfax and a few blips around Henrico. This district will likely be represented by Democrat Dan Helmer - the author of most of the anti-gun bills. Goochland - a county that went 60% for Trump will be gerrymandered into Arlington - 120 miles away. The only thing Goochland and Arlington have as a community of interest is that they are in Virginia. This is disgusting. This is why we should vote no to the redistricting amendment.

I would like to give Virginia Democrats some credit. They have found ways to tax you or hit you with some governmental fee in every area of your life. You pay taxes because you own a vehicle, you pay taxes because you own a house, you pay taxes on your income, you pay taxes when you buy things at the store and you pay taxes on your utilities. Everything you buy has a tax built into it that you are paying after being taxed on your income. The only two exceptions that I have found are breathing and sleeping…. until now…. This year, Democrats have found a way to put a fee on your new mattress. It will be about $20 per mattress. Every mattress in Virginia that is sold In Virginia’s will have this fee on it. They don’t call it tax, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s a duck. So congratulations Democrats, you have found a way to tax sleeping. I guess breathing is still tax free…for now.

The General Assembly has now passed a bill that tells teachers exactly what they must say about January 6 and the 2020 election if the topic is discussed in a classroom. That should concern everyone who believes in the First Amendment. The government does not get to mandate historical conclusions or compel speech from teachers simply because a majority in Richmond prefers a particular narrative. Whether you agree or disagree with what happened on January 6 is not the point. The point is that in America the government does not get to dictate orthodoxy. If Governor Abigail Spanberger signs this bill into law, I am prepared to immediately represent interested parties and file suit seeking a declaration that the statute is unconstitutional. Laws that compel speech and prohibit certain viewpoints raise serious First Amendment problems, and those issues should be decided by the courts, not by politicians trying to legislate history. I also hope there are people out there right now raising money to engage lawyers like me to fight these battles. Constitutional litigation is expensive, and if citizens believe the government has crossed the line, the only way to push back is through the courts. If you are a teacher, parent, school board member, or otherwise directly affected and are interested in being part of a challenge once this becomes law, feel free to reach out. The minute it is signed, the question becomes whether anyone is willing to take it to court - and if you are - I hope to be the lawyer in that fight.

This past week the General Assembly voted to make gun owners criminals if they carry out of their home a unloaded 9mm with a threaded barrel and step on the sidewalk or street with the gun - even to load it in the car. They also eliminated the cash bond requirement for someone on probation or who has a previous felony record when that person gets a new charge. Do you see the pattern here? Make gun owners criminals while making it easier for felons charged with new crimes to get back out of jail. Neither Makes Virginia safer. This is disgusting.

As we begin the redistricting fight in Virginia, you’re going to hear Democrats say this referendum is simply “responding to Texas.” That’s the talking point. The reality is very different. Over the past year several states—Texas, California, Utah, and North Carolina—have all looked at or adjusted maps, but when you actually balance the numbers across the country it essentially washes out. Republicans didn’t gain meaningful power from Texas, and Democrats didn’t gain meaningful power from California. The national balance of seats in the House has not materially changed because of those efforts. Virginia is different. If this referendum passes, Democrats are expected to gain four seats here. That’s not a response to anything happening elsewhere—it’s a straight political power grab aimed at flipping the U.S. House of Representatives. They won’t frame it that way publicly because if voters understood that this referendum is about handing one party four congressional seats in Virginia, very few people outside the most partisan activists would vote yes.
