This was an interesting time for Ciara. She locked back in, spent a lot of her own money on this, and sprinted back into action. Aside from “Ride”, this album went highly overlooked and under appreciated. It had no shortage of hits. It was also released during a never ending window of “Oontz Oontz” music.
This album felt like the introduction of Mixtape Ci/Independent Artist Ci.
Between the lack of funding & promo from her label, the lengths she took to protect the material from leaking to avoid pushbacks, material still leaking….it was a lot. Ci left all the pop sounds behind for the most part. Not sure who convinced her that it was the right move, but aside from label not playing as a team, a lot of hits were left to collect dust.
- Turn It Up
- Heavy Rotation
- Wants For Dinner
And “Ride” was blackballed by Debra Lee and BET. She also did the same thing to Teairra Mari and “Sponsor”. But, “Neighbors Know My Name” was left in constant rotation.
@ppppp1245688 Truthfully! I have met plenty straight men, that are fans based on them thinking she’s hot alone! So they hetero men that are fans definitely have taste!
