It is us (humanity) vs. the bad bugs that harm us. Let's think creatively and support each other. When necessary let's collaborate to attain synergy in our efforts.

Drs. Story-Roller and Pankaj Kumar from our group have led multiple studies providing both molecular mechanistic basis and evidence for efficacy of dual b-lactams vs Mycobacterium abscessus. Here are our publications: sites.google.com/view/lamichhan…

Reading up on dual beta lactam therapy for Mycobacterium abscessus and found this paper and this gem: "Treatment of M abscessus infection presents significant challenges and is considered a Sisyphean task for many infectious disease clinicians." academic.oup.com/ofid/article/1…

Shout-out to @NTMinfo for representing NTM patients and bringing their stories to those of us on the bench and at the bedside.

Very exciting concepts at the interface of chemistry and infection biology that focus on unexplored yet fundamental aspects of bacterial cell wall.

Below a cool teaser of what the microscopy setup from our latest preprint can do. Here, a Salmonella bacterium (arrow) divides on the surface of human intestinal cells. It then invades, and the epithelial cell reacts by instantly killing itself.

@Sandeepdhungana Good thinking. I am not sure if there is negative pressure in the tube that is anchoring the neutrophil.

Indeed please join the effort. Antibiotic development/discovery is one of the main challenges of our times as several bugs have become resistant to many Abx we have. A good blog to read more about the need for new Abx is …ibiotics-theperfectstorm.blogspot.com.

@pmoyniha @GlcNAcMurNAc I agree with you. We have discussed potential reasons for differences in our observations in the discussion section. Since Tn mutant pool is an outgrowth pool, it is inherently difficult to detect growth defective mutants such as this. But Tn mutants are powerful first screen.

@FreundlichGroup Thx Joel. A particular finding reported in our 2017 NCB paper, that penems react more strongly with LDTs catalyzed this project. I collaborated with you for several studies reported in that paper. That was also an excellent team effort.

Dear graduate students, let this sink in. If you want to read more about what Albert did, I recommend the novel 'the greatest story never told' by Frank Ryan. Just like Albert's, your contributions are much needed and will be valuable to humanity.

#OnThisDay in 1943, graduate student Albert Schatz isolated streptomycin, the first antibiotic found to treat #TB. Find out more about #tuberculosis in our blog post: microb.io/2IGArnr
