I am disgusted that my son Doug Coltart was assaulted by thugs at the Constitutional hearing in Harare this afternoon. His glasses were broken and his cell phone was stolen. Doug is one of the most peaceful people one could ever hope to meet. Whilst I am of course biased as his father this fact can be confirmed by all who know him. He is a committed believer in Jesus and the non violent principles that Jesus taught. I have just spoken to him - aside from bruises he is fine thank the good Lord. This assault has happened simply because he has become such a strong advocate against the illegal Constitutional amendment being pushed by a highly corrupt faction of Zanu PF. Our Nation can do better than this. @Sophie_Mokoena @christinalamb

I am utterly disgusted by the fact that my son was set upon and outnumbered by thugs today at the Constitutional hearing conducted in Harare. Despite how disturbing this video is I am thankful to God that Doug is safe and relatively uninjured. He had his cell phone stolen, his glasses broken and he had abrasions and bruises but otherwise survived this brutal assault by clearly several thugs. Some of the leadership of Zanu PF have completely lost their way.

The continued detention of Nicolle Chabata, a student arrested with the Avondale 78, is a pressing concern as schools reopen tomorrow. She should be sitting for her exams, not languishing in custody.
