@witsend817 @JenResistedAGN You’re right. I was showing that our standard for evidence depends upon what we want to believe. The same number of people attesting firsthand to Caesar’s murder is the same as the # who wrote directly about Jesus’ resurrection. Do you accept Tacitus & Herodotus but reject Luke?

@CLHinkle @JenResistedAGN No... he was not supernatural. Stop being silly. If the man did exist, he was flesh and blood like you and me. There was nothing magical about him. The way you answered that was nothing less than intellectual suicide.

@Vegas82 For 1800 years, everyone knew who wrote them, but now we decide we know better? Only some of the “higher crit” scholars still believe it’s anonymous. For a truly anonymous letter, look at Hebrews. Even in the 2nd century they were wondering who wrote it.

@CLHinkle Dude. Even biblical scholars who believe in Jesus overwhelmingly agree the bible is anonymous. The only ones who think the authors are known are the ones with a built-in bias. Do you believe in a new covenant?

@Vegas82 No problem. But you’re missing the serious scholarship when you decide to only read those with built in biases. I’m aware that the writers wrote to diff audiences and emphasized diff points. But I’m unaware of theological inconsistencies. I suspect you might be as well.

@CLHinkle I don't need your ramblings that no serious scholar agrees with. If you're unaware that the NT has multiple timelines for things like the crucifixion then you haven't actually read your bible.

@Vegas82 Not sure what you mean. I've never seen that in a Bible. If you're serious, I can share a some text I typed (and shared last week) from an archeological book about the history of the documents and why there's no doubt about their authorship.

@CLHinkle Why do you trust the bible is reliable when it can't even get the NT to be consistent, let alone the OT and it's myriad of errors.

@Vegas82 The myth of them being anonymous has been put to bed. You're right, history isn't solely dependent on written accounts. But are you saying you've thrown away all history that relies on historians recording what happened? That's why I asked what do you usually require as proof?

@CLHinkle You don't have any of that. The bible is written by anonymous authors who claim OTHER people saw some shit. Wanna try again? And history doesn't turn solely on written accounts, cupcake.

@Vegas82 Huh? Then all almost History would fail if you're saying that the people who saw and reported it can't be used as the claim. How would you believe anything before the invention of video?

@CLHinkle @JenResistedAGN Entirely no. If you have any provide it. And remember, the bible is the claim. It doesn't provide evidence for itself.

@JenResistedAGN I agree. Accounts that came later wouldn't convince me. I keep saying: it all hinges on whether the writers were present, honest, & reliable. A case can be made either way. I haven't been convinced yet that the witnesses' accounts are unreliable.

@edward15043 @A_Philosopher @Maximumatheist I’m just saying that I read the claim about the stories borrowed from earlier myths — but when the details get reported the ones I’ve read turned out to be mistakes. Again, no one’s offered compelling arguments to convince me not to believe… except to play on my preference …

Think about it.. your IQ has to be pretty low to be convinced there’s a magic being in the sky that will torture you for all eternity if you touch your naughty bits. And ironically it also needs your money.

@JenResistedAGN I'm going to suggest that the independent historical sources trace back to what people wrote about it. Either the report from the physician or the people who saw it happen.

@JaneCaro I don't know — you must know different men than I know. You're saying that men made a religion where they can only have 1 wife and can never leave her and have to die to protect her? And that's anti-woman?

@JeremiahDJohns I know someone who argues: • music from the 60s and 70s is still popular and played at events & in movies; • back in the 60s & 70s, we didn't constantly hear music from the 1910s; and, • it shows how much we hate modern music and long for better singers & songs.

I've written about this before, but it's remarkable how much older music is strangling new music. And the same is true in books, movies, video games. Older media is taking up a bigger and bigger share of the market every year.

@JenResistedAGN That's an element of pride that lots of us struggle to overcome. There's that feeling that we want to do it ourselves and don't like it that we have to rely on someone else.

@WesleyLHuff Let's see, the Megiddo Mosaic is from 230AD and says Jesus is God. So looks like that idea was established long before Nicea came along.

Did a fourth-century church council invent Christianity as we know it? It's one of the most popular claims made by skeptics today — that the divinity of Jesus and the contents of the Bible weren't ancient convictions, but later inventions, decided by committee at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. In this the 3rd episode of Can I Trust the Bible?, Wes and Andy head to Turkey and Italy, going straight to the source to find out whether there's any truth to these claims. Did the Council of Nicaea really vote on the Bible, or invent Christ's divinity? The answers might surprise you. Join us on this next adventure as we dig into one of church history's most misunderstood moments, separating myth from fact, and following the evidence where it leads. youtu.be/lpsKNd8tqHI?si…

@SenWarren Please do the right thing to help these students. Make the schools that profited off of them, stole their loans, and didn't provide what they promised and didn't provide repay those loans. Why may taxpayers pay for the administrators who stole those funds?

@crebj @ChristnNitemare Maybe we're both saying it depends on intent. Given that we can't stop sinning, are they using that to discourage children into despair, or promote that they aren't slaves to the sins & have an escape?

@CLHinkle @ChristnNitemare I see your thinking, but I'm afraid you've misinterpreted my meaning. Saying to children that they're sinners at heart, when sin is such a serious topic in their church, seems punitive to me. And they've committed no crime worthy of such hectoring. 'Night.
