Centenary Action

Today we marked 97 years since women won the vote on equal terms with men with a commemorative photocall of women MP. Each MP received a personalised sash by @RemakeNewport, marking their place in the history of #WomenInParliament.

We have argued this point through our research, from our ‘Breaking Down Barriers’ report, to our current work monitoring the number of disabled MPs. 'If we can do it so can you' was @CHazelgroveMP 's message to the young women attending. @KirstySNP summed up “Politics makes decisions that affect your life. You can have it done to you—or you can learn about it and influence it.”

APPG Women in Parliament Co-Chair @mimsdavies wanted young women to know what a great job being an MP is. Confidence is key and the @GEpic_UK programme helps to build this.

Great to join @Shoutout_UK & @RoehamptonUni event sharing the powerful findings of the @GEpic_UK project. The programme is proven to improve girls confidence in political engagement & build their speaking skills & confidence in making their voices heard.

Day 3 of the @wpc_pak delegation visit to Westminster. On the agenda today is ‘Addressing Online Abuse and Violence Against Women in Politics’ with @emily4MK and @ElectHer_UK. This ties in with #16days which started Tuesday.

The UK is working with Maldives to support women’s participation in politics through the Westminster Forum for Democracy. I met @anaraNareem, @fathimathsaudha, @JeehanJMS to discuss the contributions women have made to Maldivian government and politics.
