Introducing our newest members of the NFRSA… 🐾RPD Hugo is a 10-year-old German Shepherd, who served with HMPPS before retirement. @DogsHmpps Hugo is flourishing in this new chapter with his loving family, who adopted him with thanks to the wonderful Woodgreen Charity. “Hugo worked in the Police before moving to Prison Service, he did some very heroic things in his working life. He is an amazing dog and settled into his retired life with us very quickly. All our friends, family and campsite guests love him to bits.” – Norman, Hugo’s owner. 🐾RPD Jess is a beautiful, 12-year-old Labrador who served with Northumbria Police for nearly 6 years. @northumbriapol Going into retirement, she has stayed with her handler, Paul. His wife shares a bit about life with Jess: “Jess was a Drugs/Cash/Weapons detection dog while working with my husband. She had numerous operational finds and a large amount of drug recoveries. She has settled into retirement really well and is now a loved pet dog by myself, my husband and our two children”. 🐾RFID Eric served with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service for an astonishing 8 years. He is an adorable 10-year-old labrador. @HantsIOW_fire After a career of non-stop hard work and dedication, it is time for Eric to rest his paws. He enjoys the life of retirement with the company of his handler, Graham, who shares a small snippet of Eric’s working life: “Eric was trained to search fire scenes for the possible presence of ignitable liquids used in the setting of deliberate fires (arson). Placing the harness and boots on Eric was like ‘flicking a light switch on’, Eric knew it was time for work, and he was always eager to start. When Eric located the remains of an ignitable liquid, he froze in position and placed his nose on the exact area that was contaminated. He then stayed in position until I rewarded him. He now loves nothing more than running around the New Forest”. Welcome to the NFRSA, thank you all for keeping us safe during your service. We hope you enjoy your retirements – remember, help is always available here! 💜🐕

@The_NFRSA @RPD_Gru @northantsdogs @NorthantsPolice Amazing stuff. I really feared the worst when you posted last night. Great job all around and I’m so relieved for everyone who knows Rocky. Fingers crossed for a smoother and an uneventful recovery from here on in.

Never ever let it be said the power of prayer doesn’t work. We asked - you stepped up - and Rocky is home. He had a massive and horrid infection under the wound, so a big op to get it all out - coupled with a spectacular dose of antibiotics. We stayed up with his Dad, (couldn’t go to bed not knowing) exchanging messages, watching and waiting, and at 2.15am the call came. He was going to be ok. He’s tired - he’s resting - and Dad Charlie is at his side, (he’s exhausted too). But THANK YOU - positive thoughts work, love shown works, prayers work. Rocky the absolute Rockstar has pulled through and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. Bless you all for being involved and for caring so much. Reality? There’s going to be a second cracker of a vets bill - so any help with that would be so appreciated. X nfrsa.org.uk 💜🐾💜🐾💜

Please share. Percy is looking for a home to spend his twilight years as he going into kennels in Wimborne Dorset on Monday Sadly his owner is in hospital and is not coming home. There may be a person on X who has room in their hearts and a sofa to share with this boy.

Love doesn’t always need to be loud. It’s not just in the grand gestures, the perfect words, or the big, cinematic moments we’re taught to chase. Sometimes, love is much quieter than that. It lives in the small, steady things—the way you show up, the way you listen, the softness in your tone, the patience you offer when it’s not easy. You don’t have to have all the right things to say. You don’t have to fix everything. Just being present, being kind, being gentle—that’s more powerful than we give it credit for. Real love isn’t about performance. It’s about consistency. It’s about making someone feel safe, seen, and supported in the simplest ways. And sometimes, that’s all they really need.
