Oil made the country incredibly wealthy. Caracas, the city where I spent my childhood, was known as the Paris of South America. Before Caracas and the rest of the country was destroyed by the gigantic phagot and commie POS Hugo Chavez (Fidel Castro’s butt buddy), it looked a lot like San Fransisco in the 80s (ironically before a bunch commie phagots also took over and destroyed that city). Venezuela produced and sold a vast amount of oil used by the Allies to win WWII. Simon Bolivar was Venezuelan, known as the George Washington of South America, led a Revolution against the Spanish and secured independence for the top half of South America. Venezuela used to have a very good relationship with the US. Everything wrong with Venezuela today is self inflicted.
