In 1975, the ARVN fought with great determination despite many generals having fled. Tens of thousands of soldiers fiercely resisted the NVA and defended the capital until the end, but shortages of manpower and supplies ultimately led to its fall.

Equipment of the 2 Vietcong companies that participated in the battle of Ap Bac on January 2nd, 1963. Despite lacking anti-tank weapons, the VC managed to take out ARVN's M113 simply by shooting the gunners, who didn't have gun shields at the time.

1. Instead of attacking through Tivkhin, Adolf Hitler listened to his generals' earlier plan of a more limited attack along the shores of Lake Ladoga. This cut off the Road to Life, resulting in the fall of Leningrad by February 1942. The freed up army enabled Germany to stabilize and halt the Toropet Offensive, freeing up millions that would've otherwise been stuck in the pockets around Demyansk and Rzhev. 2. The success spurred Finland to proceed with its planned offensive on Belomorsk. The Murmansk Railways was cut off, along with Lend Lease flowing through it. This will, in hindsight, be judged as a miscalculation by future historians, as Britain responded by formally declaring war on Finland. Heydrich survived his assassination attempt and personally led the reprisals against Czech civilians. 3. Germany successfully defended the Stalingrad front against Operation Uranus. By February 1943, Stalingrad, Astrakhan, and much of the Volga have fallen, along with its Volga river oil and Persian Lend Lease logistics route. Any uncaptured Soviet oil logistical infrastructure were obliterated by the Luftwaffe. Baku oil fields was destroyed. Some 80% of the Soviet oil supply was cut off, with instantly catastrophic results for the Soviet War effort. An enraged Stalin ordered a Second Great Purge against the Red Army and other perceived obstacles against the Soviet war effort. Zhukov, Rokosovsky, Vasilevsky, Konev, Chuikov, Molotov, and Khrushchev was arrested and killed by the NKVD, along with hundreds of thousands of other officers, bureaucrats, and party officials until the end of the war. 4. The collapse of Soviet oil and Lend Lease logistics resulted in the collapse of 1943 Soviet harvests. A general famine ensued. Baku was captured in October 1943. Britain immediately instituted Operation Pike, completely obliterating all remaining oil production in the Caucasus. Further offensives bogged down as both armies faced extremely severe oil and logistical shortages. Famines in Soviet territory escalates, now with Heydrich's deliberate engineering. 5. Failure of Operation Overlord in late June 1944, which was launched in "the biggest storm in 40 years" after previous delay due to a flawed weather prediction. Eisenhower resigned. Rommel, being the defender of the Western Front, earned Hitler's favor. A confident Hitler appoints Heydrich as the Reich Plenipotentiary for Generalplan Ost, Goebbels as the Reich Plenipotentiary for Total War, and Rommel as the marshall in charge of the Eastern Front, tasked to bring the war to a "swift conclusion". Heydrich, extremely radicalized by a failed assassination attempt in 1942, began the operation to liquidate the entire Polish and Soviet population behind the LMA (Leningrad, Moscow, Astrakhan) line, amounting to almost 100 million people, before 1950 as a solution to the rapidly escalating insurgencies. Stalemate in the Volga, Moscow, and Ladoga fronts. 6. Allied landings in Greece on December 1945 at the urging of Winston Churchill following the failure of Overlord. Historians will later deem this a strategic mistake. Under Rommel's command, Moscow was captured in March 1945 after five months of brutal siege and the largest urban combat in history, twice the size of Stalingrad's, which saw the desperate Soviet employing the "human waves" tactic. By this point both armies were using "horses and human slaves" to move around logistics. Soviet Union's Moscow-centric railways system was destroyed without the capacity to rebuild any alternatives. This signals the farthest reach of the German offensive efforts in the war as her war economy are progressively destroyed by increasingly indiscriminate and desperate Allied bombings and firestorms. 7. Atomic bombings of Berlin, Essen, and Ploiesti in August 1945. Hitler, Bormann, Keitel, Jodl, and Goering was killed. Himmler, Goebbels, Heydrich, Speer, and Rommel is in charge. In place of nukes, America instituted a total blockade of the Japanese home isles and a strategic bombing of its logistics system, with the explicit intent of engineering mass starvations. Allied landings in Norway. 8. Germany under Himmler retaliates by indiscriminately bombing London with chemical nerve gas using V2 and V3 rockets in a period of 3 days. 60.000 civilians were killed. Among them, King George VI and Clement Atlee was killed alongside numerous members of the Royal Family and politicians. Elizabeth was proclaimed Queen in a defiant ceremony in an obliterated, gaseous London by officials wearing gas masks. The surviving remnants of the Royal Family evacuated to Scotland. Allied troops the Balkans, Italy, and Eastern Europe are also gassed. 9. Britain retaliates with Operation Vegetarian. The rural fields of Oldenburg and Hanover are showered with Anthrax cattle cakes. German troops in all fronts are also gassed with mustard and nerve gas. Stalin retaliates against German chemical attacks by ordering its own full scale chemical and biological warfare program in the Eastern Front. 10. September 1945: Atomic bombings of Cologne, Leipzig, Hiroshima, and Kokura. Normal strategic firebombings and chemical bombings of Germany and Japan continue alongside it. Chemical warfare escalates. Japan did not surrender as the Soviet Union, still at war with Nazi Germany, remains neutral. Himmler instituted the "Nero Order" as retaliation against the atomic bombings: the total demolition and flattening of Paris, Reims, Brussels, and Amsterdam, in a policy of "two cities for a city". Block by block, all four cities was dynamited and flattened. Their entire urban populations were rounded up and transferred into concentration camps in the East. All cultural artefacts, statues, historical monuments, paintings, book, cathedrals, libraries, archival records, universities in the four doomed cities were identified and destroyed or looted by SS soldiers. Total destruction and demolition to "wipe out all traces of Slavic civilization" were also ordered for almost all major cities in Eastern Europe, this time in secret, with Himmler and Heydrich privately confiding that the war might be lost. The block-by-block demolition of Moscow, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kiev, Minsk, Riga, Talinn, Vilnius, Warsaw, Krakow, Lvov, and another 19 other cities and site was either done or attempted. All forms of cultural artefacts were destroyed on sight. Another German retaliation came in more indiscriminate chemical rocket attacks against British cities all over England, though much smaller in numbers as Germany was thought to have expended most of its rocket stockpile in the 3-day rocket strikes against London. Retaliatory British anthrax bombings against the attacks were expanded to the entirety of German rural territories with the goal of collapsing the entire German food production capacity. German medical capacity was completely overrun by the Anthrax Epidemic of 1945-1949. 11. October 1945: atomic bombings of Dusseldorf, Gelsenkirchen, Nagasaki, and Niigata despite Japanese order to spread out US war prisoners in major Japanese cities. Himmler escalated the Nero Order to the entirety of France, Benelux, Denmark, and Norway. In particular, the Dutch sea dikes were systematically dynamited, causing sea water to flood and destroy vast tracts of Dutch agricultural lands and settlements. King Christian X of Denmark was publicly hanged. American strategic bombings of Japanese logistical capacities continue. Famines in Japan. 12. November 1945: simultaneous atomic bombings of Nuremberg, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya as Allied war planners move to "strategic targets" (civilian population) instead of industrial targets. Japan was targeted as war planners deemed Japan to be "more conducive for unconditional surrender", following the repeated belligerence and "insanity" of Himmer's regime. Unfortunately, Emperor Hirohito and Crown Prince Akihito was accidentally killed. Intelligence reports of Hirohito being in a mountain bunker was inaccurate. Japanese War Minister, Korechika Anami, became the new Prime Minister of Japan and vows a "Glorious Death of 100 Million". By this point massive proportions of German war industries have been spread out underground and on the countrysides under Speer's directions. 13. December 1945: Atomic bombings of Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Bremen, Stuggart, Duisburg, Bochum, and 2 tactical military targets in France and Belgium, combined with the largest firebombing campaign in the war so far. Allied landings in Calais, Bruges, and the Netherlands. Antwerp and Rotterdam was rapidly seized. Himmler orders the employment of chemical and biological warfare as a scorched earth tactics to delay the movements of the Allied expeditionary forces. First known use of suicide bombers in warfare, as mobilized Hitler Jugend youths were ordered to dress as unarmed civilians and attack Allied soldiers, with the goal of encouraging Allied atrocities against civilians and crush any possibility of local collaboration. Continued strategic bombings of Japan. Soviet winter offensive in the Volga. Germany's Army Group South, deprived of fuel and ammunition and parts, was destroyed. Uprisings in Poland and France. The latter increasingly gains a communist shade. 14. Famines in Germany and Eastern Europe throughout the winter of 1945-1946. German food production collapsed completely due to anthrax and logistical annihilation. Liberation of Moscow and Leningrad after urban warfare with extremely heavy Soviet casualties, many due to exposure to the winter conditions instead of combat. Himmler and Heydrich instituted "Operation Werewolf" for a prolonged guerilla warfare against imminent Allied occupation (to be led by Goebbels), and begins the deceivingly named "Operation Alpine Redoubt" to evacuate the SS to South America. As a part of this operation, Himmler ordered the immediate genocide of anyone and everyone that might be capable of instituting a stable German state after the Nazis leave. This includes almost the entire Catholic political and religious apparatus in Germany; bureaucrats, intellectuals, and military officers known to resist Nazi Party authority, and all political prisoners. Continued strategic bombings of Japan. 15. January-February 1946: Atomic bombings of Kiel, Rostock, Munster, Lubeck, Mannheim, and Oberhausen, as well as 10 tactical atomic bombings on Wehrmacht and Waffen SS concentrations in Germany and Western Europe, including in France. By this point Germany have suffered a total of 32 atomic bombs in 6 months, as well as indiscriminate firebombings that increases in size by the months. Nearly 100% of German petroleum capacity have been destroyed, as well as 70% of German food supply. Allied offensives straight into the plains of northern Germany. The Ruhr is encircled. Liberation of France. De Gaulle was photographed in Paris wearing gas mask and hazmat suit, standing before a vast expanse of gaseous dead ruins, many known to be full of booby traps and land mines. 16. American soldiers wearing gas masks and hazmat suits erected the American flag in the irradiated, gaseous ruins of Berlin on 27 February 1946. The German government never announced any formal surrender. Himmler, Goebbels, Heydrich, Schorner, Speer, and some hundreds of thousands of SS soldiers simply disappeared after declaring that Aryan race will "eternally resist". Rommel also disappeared, although it was suspected that he was killed in the final stages of Operation Gotterdamerung. Almost the entirety of the German military officer class, both active and retired, who refused to be a part of Operation Werewolf or Operation Alpine Redoubt was liquidated in January and February 1942. Allied efforts to institute food and epidemic relief, logistics, and occupational governance was severely hampered. Pockets of Nazi guerilla attacks and radio propaganda continue to spring up in Germany well into 1948, when Goebbels was finally found and killed in a shoot out against American soldiers in the forests of central Germany. The most fiercesome guerilla activity was in the Alps, meant as a cover for the main evacuation to South America. Vastly larger bands of Nazi warlords and banditry persisted in Polish and Soviet territories, mixing with Ukrainian and Baltic resistances, and will not be fully extirpated before 1955. Stalin instituted a Second Great Purge in his attempt to fully extirpate these anti-Soviet elements. Around 5-6 million Ukrainians, Latvians, Estonians, Lithuanians, Belarusians, and Moldovans were deported to Siberian concentration camps. This was combined with the brutal Soviet conquest and occupation of Finland, which was annexed and converted into an SSR. Start of the Finnish Genocide as hundreds of thousands are deported to Siberia. Morgenthau Plan was put into effect and Germany was systematically deindustrialized. Combined with the extremely heavy contamination of vast tracts of German agricultural lands by Anthrax spores, the result was the disintegration of the German society and economy. German protests were silenced as "Nazi agitations". Around 8.1 million Germans died in a period of 1946-1950, mostly to starvation and disease. German concentration camps were repurposed by the Allied anti-Nazi counterinsurgency campaign's program of interning millions of Germans. Poland largely liberated itself and even retook almost all of the territory previously seized by the Soviets. The European Famine of 1946-1947 and the Japanese Famine of 1945-1948 continues. 16. March 1946: At the same time, Operation Majestic begins. American invades the Japanese home islands, starting with the capture of the southern third of Kyushu island. Atomic bombings of Oita, Nobeoka, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Fukuoka, Sasebo, Shimosenki, and Miyakonojo, as well 5 tactical atomic bombings against IJA and IJN concentrations in Kyushu island, combined with equally massive strategic bombings and firebombings in Kyushu, Shikoku, and southern Honshu. In just a day, Kyushu was obliterated by 14 atomic bombs. Anami followed through his ultimatum and ordered the public beheadings of some 50.000 Allied POWs, as well as secret killings against Japanese pre-war intellectuals, politicians, and business figures deemed to be "potential collaborators" like Shigeru Yoshida. Virulent outrage in the West against the killing of POWs. Open calls for the "destruction of the Japanese nation" by radical senators. Continued indiscriminate strategic bombings against Japanese logistics capacity was redirected to focused entirely on Kyushu's "capacity for popular armed resistance", understood to mean the deliberate genocide through starvation of the entire population of Kyushu island. 17. April 1946: Atomic bombings of Tokyo Bay, Kobe, Sapporo, Hakodate, Yamaguchi, Okayama, Takamatsu, Kanazawa, Nagano, and 5 tactical targets in and around Kyushu in support of the ongoing invasion. Soviet invasion of Manchuria and Hokkaido on 10 April. The American atomic bombings of Sapporo and Hakodate, as well as the bombings of its ports and infrastructure is thought to be an effort to hamper Soviet plans to create a communist regime in Hokkaido. Hokkaido violently fell into a state of famine and lawlessness. 18. May 1946: Atomic bombings of Aomori, Sendai, Hitachi, Kofu, Hachioji, Mito, Takasaki, Nikko, Choshi, Chiba, Shizuoka, Hamamatsu, Tokushima, Yawata, Omuta, Omura, Saga, Ube, Fukuyama, Himeji, and Matsue. In total, Japan has been struck by 58 atomic bombs in 9 months, as well as firebombings on every city and nearly every rural economic concentrations. A third of Kyushu was successfully occupied and cleared of almost its entire population. By this time both IJA and IJN has been fully destroyed as an organized military, leaving only bands of organized banditry only capable of guerilla resistance. Allied forces began planning for the military occupation of Japan and Korea. 18. June 1946: Allied landings in Kanto, Nagoya, Osaka, and Shikoku. The American flag was erected in the irradiated ruins of the Imperial Palace. Prime Minister Anami, the Imperial Family, and the rest of the cabinet and military leadership disappeared without a trace. Douglas MacArthur instituted a military occupation government in Japan, declares WW2 over, and began planning for "mopping up" counterinsurgency operations and the establishment of a republican, secular, liberal democracy in Japan. Flamethrowers, napalm, nerve and napalm gas, concentration camps, and forest-destroying foliant gas are employed to clear our Japanese rural mountains from insurgent caves, many of whom actually housed local civilians. Japanese imperial family, government, military high officers, and millions of IJA soldiers remain missing. Most were presumed dead in the brutal counterinsurgencies that followed. Himmler, Goebbels, Heydrich, Schorner, and hundreds of thousands of SS soldiers remain missing. BBC reports a massive outflow of capital out of Germany into South America through Swiss banks before the end of war in Europe. General Montgomery, military governor of the British Occupation Zone of Germany, was killed by armed Nazi werewolves militants, leading to public outcry against the German population and a general purge against German state bureaucracies, police forces, and companies "still infested with Nazis". By 1950 it is estimated that around a quarter of the Soviet population, a third of the German population, and three quarters of the Polish and Japanese population have died. 19. July 1946: Clashes between Polish and American troops against Soviet troops amidst disputes of formerly occupied Soviet territories. General Patton, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces Europe, ordered aggressive retaliations including aistrikes against Soviet positions and army bases. He was immediately sacked. Truman, saddled with the sacking of Patron, threatened the Soviet Union with "immediate atomic destruction" if Stalin didn't back down in Poland. Stalin complied. The world was unnerved by "American nuclear belligerence". Red Scare in the West begins. Polish government, facing an existential threat from Stalin, funded awareness campaigns across Britain and America and employed experts such as Edward Bernard to try make the Nazis and the Soviets interchangeable in the minds of the Western public. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact soon enter US political life. A group of Republican politicians, including senator Joseph McCarthy, met with Patton to discuss 1948 election prospects. Patton refused, for now. 20. August 1946: Stalin signed the top secret "Spanish Memorandum", its title referencing the defeat of Napoleon in Spain, outlining Soviet strategic framework. The memorandum calls for the overextension of the American military and atomic hegemony in the world through the Chinese and Korea communists, the secret orchestration of a Korean War, and the fomenting of communist popular movements in Japan, Southeast Asia, India, Italy, Germany, and France. Atomic America, the memorandum called, shall be plunged into an "endless direct combat against billions of people" until it is completely exhausted and its political legitimacy complete destroyed. The "civilizations" of Korea and China will be "sacrificed" for this cause. At the same time, within a few years, SS leadership hiding in South America and the Middle East will come up with their own plan for survival: collaboration with anti-communist governments across the world. Heydrich in particular would be secretly tapped by the CIA to help crush the burgeoning communist movements in France, Germany, and Italy. Operation Gladio would be completely infiltrated by Nazis and their old fascist collaborators. They would enter organized crime and mafia activity across Europe, China, and Latin America. The Nazis found their first success in the 1952 Italian Military Coup immediately after Communist victory in the 1952 Italian general elections, amidst the specter of the Cold War, Red Scare, fall of France to communism, and US direct combat and atomic intervention in the Chinese Civil War.

"a good 50% of people will correct you to say "Saigon"" It's what's more convenient to say rather than what's more correct. Both ways are acceptable but Southerners tend to say Sài Gòn because 1. The name appeared long ago 2. It's shorter That's it
Jesse Nickles@jessuppi

@okaythenfuture Bro even Vietnamese people wouldn't say that, they are very pro market economy these days. Their nationalism runs deep for sure but they would never credit socialism for their success. If you say "Ho Chi Minh City" in Vietnam a good 50% of people will correct you to say "Saigon".
