I was going to call this dumb, but former NTSB board member John Goglia just texted me and told me to reply with this instead: The issue raised in The Rehearsal is whether the authority gradient affects copilots' willingness to assert themselves at critical junctures and captains' willingness to hear copilots in those moments. Neither the question nor the answer dealt with this well-recognized cockpit issue. Nor the NTSB's analysis of the issue of what was lacking in current training and its recommendation of role-playing to ameliorate this situation.

I could weep. There's heat, rainfall, weather events breaking records constantly all over the planet, people being killed by turbulence on planes, the planet hotter than ever in recorded history, microplastics found in our blood, in human placentas, in our testicles... a growing threat of new pandemics, oceans acidifying, animals falling from trees dead because of the heat, a million species at risk of extinction - and our culture, our media, our politicians, our famous people, all stay silent, refuse to educate themselves, refuse to raise the alarm, refuse to call for action - and most of the public are the same. We are in a genuine planetary disaster - worse than any movie - and are doing almost nothing about it. We aren't even talking about it like it's real. We are insane. This is the nightmare of all nightmares. A clusterfuck of stupidity, ignorance, arrogance, consumerism gone mad, political corruption, public apathy and educational and cultural breakdown. There's no words to express how broken we are right now. And it's only just beginning.
