@nickgerli1 My understanding is it was mostly about issues in mortgage-backed securities that SVB invested in when rates were low. It’s also about Congress buying SVB’s lies that it was too small to pose a systemic risk & therefore stress tests were an undue burden. But I’m not a Powell fan.

1) So right now most people think Silicon Valley Bank was all about issues in tech. But the real issue that prompted the bank run was tech companies running out of money. Why are they running out of money? Because the Fed is tightening the money supply.

When the Money Supply Contracts📉, banks start collapsing.❌ This trend is very predictable. Each time the money supply has contracted in last 150 years, we've had a banking crisis. M2 Money is down -2% YoY. First time in 100 years. Take note.

@LadyKnightFox They got the same deferments for being enrolled in college that Dick Cheney did. Meanwhile Cheney said nothing while John Kerry, who went to Vietnam, was swiftboated (slandered) because he protested after his time in the Navy was over.

@mirandadevine It’s not a new back & forth at all. Dems started pointing stuff like this out when Republicans started using it against Bill Clinton when he ran against the elder Bush. Iraq War hawk Dick Cheney got 5 deferments while they swiftboated John Kerry who served.

@d_in_bridge In essence, SVB as a bank no longer exists here either and doesn’t have squat to say about anything. The Gov’t is in charge, will try to stop the bleeding and attempt to unload it asap.

@d_in_bridge No expert but I read it as HSBC absorbs SVB’s UK arm and that’s the end of SVB in the UK - a clean break. The Bank of England isn’t on the hook for whatever amount their version of FDIC covers and UK tech businesses w/ SVB don’t get screwed out of whatever amt. above that.

@Pinche_Pi I figured it was the Feds backstopping SVB’s depositors and Treasury being on the ball with the Bank of England to give SVB’s UK arm to HSBC. So much for SVB’s lobbyists claiming banks its size didn’t pose a systemic risk when they got Congress to ease regs.
