An update, for those who’ve been praying for our Claire. It’s been an exceptionally difficult month post-hospital. But we’re finally starting to stabilize. And we’re headed to Houston this morning to start a series of important tests.

Claire Update. Unfortunately, not a best-case scenario. It appears Claire has a brain tumor. Fortunately, she is recovering beautifully, and there is much good news—foremost of which being the tumor is not cancerous. More details below for those keeping track and praying.

🚨🙏Urgent prayer appreciated for our precious daughter, Claire. She had a series of very scary seizures. We took her to the local hospital, where she was intubated, heavily sedated, and is being flown to Houston for emergency specialty care.

CLAIRE UPDATE (Friday) 1. MRI. Unfortunately not definitive. Need additional time/data make determinations. Not what we were hoping for but ok. 2. Claire. Ventilator removed—much less miserable/more comfortable. Feels like a gift just to be able to have a conversation with her.

Claire update. PRAYER REQUESTS. 1. MRI on Fri AM. Biggest inflection point helping determine cause/severity of seizures. Praying for clarity, no spots, best of news. 2. Rest for Claire—sedation pre-MRI. She’s terrified/delirious any time she wakes. It’s heartbreaking.

Her vitals are stable. But words like medical-induced coma are extremely scary to hear. Please pray for: • clear answers • healing • safe travels • total recovery • and her two siblings who are also very concerned along with Molly and me for our Claire Bear.

Starting today our church is kicking off a sustained effort to get as many of our people to read the entire Bible in 2026, with: • sermons tracking with the plan • free audiobook version • reading plan for kids • podcast by our pastors • small group guide Can’t wait!

🧵 Spiritual Planning for 2026 🧵 Picking a Bible-reading plan is great. But this time of year is the perfect time of year to make a real plan to go further and grow deeper. The last several years I've made a spiritual training plan. Here's what I'm doing this year and why.

FINAL THOUGHTS There's more to life than optimization and efficieincy. Ironically, that's what has made this practice valuable to me. It takes me out of task mode, makes me reflective, and cultivates gratitude in my heart.

SHUTDOWN RITUAL On top of that, lots of people have talked about the importance of a shutdown ritual. It's always felt a little forced or hokey when I've tried something. But I've found after I do this, I'm in a different frame of mind. It helps me transition out of work-mode.

🚀 My Best New Daily Habit in 2025. I've long started a new notebook each year and used it to capture everything and serve as a second brain. See below. But one change this year that has added a ton of value—the one-sentence summary. x.com/DLPatterson/st…
Daniel Patterson@DLPatterson

🧵Effectiveness pro-tip. Use one notebook each year to capture everything. • goals, plans, checklists • meeting notes • sketching random ideas • notes from church, talks, etc. Instead of reaching for scratch paper here, legal pad there, keep it all in the same place. Why?

@beadles_andrew I tend to use audiobooks for things I won’t tend to need to highlight/mark much (light fiction, biography, etc.) That said, I’ve also been known to listen to an audiobook then realize I need to purchase the hard copy in order to mark, pull quotes, etc. 😂

@DLPatterson This is a hard one for me, especially when it comes to audiobooks. With physical books I can highlight, underline, and jot thoughts down to help retain what I'm reading to some degree. Not so much with audiobooks.

📚 10 TIPS: How to Read More in 2026 📚 I love to read (but haven't always). For the last decade or so I've read 100–150 books a year on average. And here's what I would tell the younger me, or someone interested in reading more.

@lukestamps Point very well taken. I do 5–10 books per year in fiction, doctrine, hermeneutics, spirituality very slowly & contemplatively. I sort of think of it as breathing and eating. My “fast” reading as the air I breathe, the slow reading as the meals I want to savor and remember.

A lot of good tips here. But for another perspective, I read far, far less than this every year. I do read to remember. So, I read slowly and deeply. I try to have several going at time: spirituality, theology, fiction, and audio for chores/exercise.

@NMedina5 No specific model. Start with a psalm and adoration before moving to petitions. Then the structure is just a card with several of the basic categories: family, friends, requests, church members, gov’t, etc. split across the days.

@DLPatterson Can you say more about your daily goal to spend quality time in structured prayer please? Do you use an acronym or a model or do you have a specific list you pray about?
