DID YOU KNOW: During the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari (2015–2023), significant funds were approved and released for preparatory activities for the national census, leading to a total expenditure of approximately ₦200 billion for preparations by May 2023. While a total budget approaching ₦800 billion to ₦900 billion was projected for the full 2023 census exercise, the census was postponed before completion.   Key allocations and approvals during the Buhari administration included: 1. October 2020: President Buhari approved ₦10 billion for the Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) in 546 local government areas. 2. October 2020 (Further Approval): An additional ₦4.5 billion was approved to be included in the 2021 budget for the completion of the EAD, making it a total of ₦14.5bn approved at that time. 3. 2022 Budget: Approximately ₦177.33 billion was approved for the national population and housing census. 4. March 2023: The Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved ₦2.8 billion for the procurement of software for the census. 5. Cumulative Spent: By May 18, 2023, the National Population Commission (NPC) announced that ₦200 billion had been spent over several years (starting from 2014) on preparatory activities, with the bulk of it used during the Buhari administration, particularly for EAD and procurement of 760,000 Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs).  However, after all of these “preparatory activities,” the 2023 census was eventually postponed by the Buhari administration to allow the incoming administration to conduct the exercise.  P.S: Somebody please help me add allegedly to all the places you think it’s needed above 🙏🏽.

I used to buy him books as Harvard student and we discuss those ideas. I know that learning and leading go together. I became his special adviser and we pulled a great success at the Senate. Another day we were discussing why Nigeria and Indonesia are growing apart and I told him about the book of the same title by Peter Lewis. He said he was going to meet Peter Lewis and asked for the book to read. He came back with better understanding of the ideas. If you seek ideas then you can lead better. I made that bet with Ken Nnamani and he was excellent. I make the bet again. Peter Obi will be excellent as Nigerian president.

Question: “I want my child to become a successful coder. What should we do now while the child is still in secondary school?” My Response: First, I should clarify that I am not a career counselor and I hold no professional license in that field. However, drawing from my personal experiences and observations of others, I believe that a child who develops a strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and chemistry during the early stages of education has a much greater chance of thriving in computing and engineering than one who is pushed too early into coding and programming languages without those fundamentals. The best developers and creators in computer science and engineering are typically excellent students of mathematics and physics. They use computational thinking as a tool to solve complex problems. Before a problem can be translated into code, it must first be understood and resolved at the level of mathematical reasoning and physical principles. In that sense, coding is not the pinnacle of the process; mathematics and physics form the intellectual architecture upon which useful software and systems are built. I experienced this firsthand during my PhD studies at Johns Hopkins University. In a course titled Computer Integrated Surgery, my major project involved building a machine capable of controlling a needle through an endoscope / laryngoscope so that it could pass through the larynx, enabling a physician to perform minimally invasive throat surgery with the assistance of the da Vinci medical robot. It was an extremely complex engineering challenge. The real difficulty of the project was not writing code. The challenge lay in solving the mathematical equations required to track the needle, the surgical instruments, and the human tissues involved in the procedure. Using markers and imaging systems, mathematics had to ensure precise positioning and movement within the human body. Without the math, the coding phase would not arrive. For young people interested in computing, the message is clear. Learn to code, certainly, but build a deep foundation in mathematics, physics, and analytical thinking. Those foundations enable you to operate at the upstream layers of technology, where systems are designed, algorithms are invented, and real breakthroughs occur. One of the main reasons we will be opening the 2027 South East Maths Olympiad early is that we will enroll all of them in an e-learning portal and share very useful learning resources for them to sharpen their maths skills and also conquer fear. We have seen where most of the students are struggling in from the data gotten from the recent competition and we will help them close it. Beyond the competition, we will give every child resources to scale up their maths skills. I also saw how excited parents were seeing their children’s results in the last exam and also finding out the true gaps not minding the schools own usual results. We will do everything within our power to support every child who participate in the South East. We will build a great economy with millions of super brilliant geniuses within 10 years. The future is bright!
