@rhodeislandmike @CBSMornings Medicare hospice cost reports are publicly available online. Obviously, bad guys may cheat on the cost report too, but it's amazing how many will self-report bad numbers. Also, hundreds of CA hospices don't file cost reports exploiting a loophole claiming "low volume."

This is terrific reporting from CBS but they really should have credited @nickshirleyy for his work too. Nick wasn’t the first to report on California’s hospice fraud, but he was certainly the first to expose it and amplify it in a way that was too big to ignore. Well done.

@DanFriedman81 Massive hospice fraud. But, where was the CA Dept of Health for the last 5 years? The State of CA is paid by HHS to license and periodically audit hospices who bill Medicare and Medicaid. Hard to believe: - CA politicians didn't know, or benefit - fraud is limited to hospice

California has six times as many hospices relative to the elderly population as the rest of the country. They’re all run by migrants who steal your tax dollars and ship them abroad. State auditors have known for years that these companies are filing false reports about patients they never visited and are billing Medicare and state agencies for fraudulent services. California will not shut them down.

@TimRunsHisMouth As an aside, HHS delegates licensing and auditing Medicare hospices to State Health Departments, and pays the State to do that work. This fraud, and it is certainly massive fraud, is on the State of California. And it is almost certainly not limited to the hospice benefit.

@EricLDaugh Here are 42 mostly small CA hospices that self-reported 2024 Medicare/Medicaid revenue of ~$80M and NI margins of at least 40%. (Their claimed "g&a" expenses should probably be added to their NI.) Hospices that actually care for patients don't earn 40%, especially small ones.

Fox News obtained a photo of Michigan synagogue attacker Ayman Mohamad Ghazali, sent to his sister in Lebanon on the day of the attack, showing him holding what authorities believe is the same rifle used in the assault, @BillMelugin_ reported. The image reportedly included Arabic text referencing martyrdom and revenge, which was redacted. Ghazali, a Lebanon-born U.S. citizen, entered the United States legally in 2011 and was naturalized in 2016. According to the Israel Defense Forces, one of his brothers was a Hezbollah rocket commander killed in a recent Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.

It's fairly rare, in real time, to see a Democrat accidentally stumble into the realization that socialism is really expensive and people can vote with their feet to escape the taxes. As it turns out, "tax the rich" is a great slogan until "the rich" move somewhere else.
