As a photographer, I have learned that the most powerful people are often those who understand people, culture and history beyond the camera moments. Being part of Peter Obi’s envoy to South Africa gave me the opportunity to witness that firsthand. Listening to him speak about his long-standing relationship with South Africa, from his early business engagements with South African Breweries, to witnessing Nelson Mandela’s release from prison, and living in the same neighborhood at the time with Mandela, showed a man who genuinely understands the importance of relationships, diplomacy and African unity. What stood out the most was his belief in what Africa can become if we begin to work together intentionally as one continent. Conversations like these make you understand what his kind of presidency would mean for Nigeria, stronger economic partnerships, better international respect, healthier relationships across Africa, and a country that is once again seen as a serious and trusted voice on the global stage. For me, it was more than a trip. It was a reminder that leadership is also about experience, exposure, relationships and the ability to connect Nigeria to bigger opportunities across the world. #NigeriaWillBeOk

This Nigerian lady who teaches at a school in Japan broke down the Japanese style of learning that makes them very intelligent and productive. I think this is smart learning. It will be helpful to Nigerian students, if it is adopted in our educational system.✍️

Young Nigerians are not stupid. We are on fire! Why should anyone pay over ₦600K for a substandard education in a public university? Leave everything & listen to our Gen Zs speak. Tag them. They deserve a massive shout out. Nigeria must be OK in our lifetime!! 😭👏👏

My final engagement before leaving Capetown for Johannesburg yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting two distinguished former leaders, President Ian Khama of Botswana and President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa, before departing Cape Town for Johannesburg yesterday. This meeting was an opportunity for me to express my heartfelt appreciation for their positive comments on the recent immigration issues in the region and their continued advocacy for peace and unity among African nations. Both Mr Khama and Mr Mbeki continue to hold significant respect across the continent due to their remarkable contributions, both during and after their presidencies. During my audience with Mr Mbeki, I also reconnected with my good friend, former Ekiti State Governor Dr Kayode Fayemi, who delivered a keynote address at the Thabo Mbeki Africa Day lecture, focusing on the themes of rebuilding unity and revitalising institutions throughout the continent. This event was organised by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation. -PO

I am privileged to be invited as an observer to the Spier Dialogue 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, a gathering that has brought together respected leaders, policymakers, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and change makers from across Africa and the world to discuss the future of democracy, governance, leadership, urbanisation, and economic transformation on our continent. This opportunity was made possible through the kind facilitation and connection of Mr. @PeterObi, whose commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and engagement across African leadership spaces continues to open doors for constructive exchange and shared learning. As someone who contested for the position of Chairman of AMAC in the last election, this experience has been deeply enriching, particularly as I had meaningful engagements and listened to Mr. George Hill-Lewis, the Mayor of Cape Town and Leader of the South AfricanDemocratic Alliance, on city building, sustainable urban development, and how African cities can be transformed through visionary leadership, proper planning, and focused oriented governance. These are exactly the ideas and reforms I envisioned for AMAC and Abuja, creating functional communities, improving infrastructure, ensuring environmental sustainability, empowering young people, and building cities that truly work for the people. I also had the privilege of exchanging ideas with Mr. Venancio Mondlane, the leadership of ANAMOLA, the Mayor of Mozambique, and several other distinguished African leaders and thinkers on governance, economic productivity, institutional reforms, and the urgent need for Africa to invest more in its people, especially the youth. One thing remains clear, Africa has enormous potential, but realizing that potential requires competent, accountable, and compassionate leadership committed to service rather than personal interests. The conversations here in Cape Town further strengthen my belief that transformational leadership and intentional city development are critical to building the Africa we all desire. Earlier today, I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, to take part in the Spier Dialogue 2026, an important event centred on the future of Africa and the urgent challenges facing our continent and the globe. The Spier Dialogue occurs at a crucial time as Africa grapples with significant issues in governance, democracy, economic inclusion, urbanisation, migration, and leadership. However, it also highlights the vast opportunities presented by the energy and creativity of our young population. As leaders and stakeholders gather from various regions, I look forward to partaking in insightful discussions, especially as I have the privilege of addressing attendees tomorrow on policies geared toward growth. Africa’s future should not be characterised by poverty amid abundance or by division instead of development. It is time for us to transition from consumption to production, from divisive politics to politics built on competence and compassion, and from mere promises to tangible progress that serves everyday citizens. Upon my arrival, I had the opportunity to meet with the Nigerian community in Cape Town for a heartfelt discussion about the recent challenges affecting African expatriates in South Africa, resulting in over two hours of fruitful dialogue. I remain dedicated to advocating for a New Nigeria and a New Africa—one where governance genuinely serves the people, where the youth are equipped with education and opportunities, and where leadership is founded on integrity, service, and sacrifice. A New Nigeria POssible. -PO

“In 2023, it was difficult for Obi to find a VP candidate in the north, but in this election, Rabiu Kwankwaso, with all his political clout, as a fmr. Governor—unlike Datti, who lost his ward in 2023, came to work with Obi as a VP candidate, as a willing collaborator” —Sen. Umeh
