@ThomasJPinkCain Tobacco vape products need to be marketed and sold as quit aids, and not as cool and trendy products for young non-smokers.

@ThomasJPinkCain Another thing that helps is plain packaging laws. Plain packaging makes the cigarette cartons look boring and prevents tobacco companies from using branding to make their products more appealing.

Gerrymandering is undemocratic and evil. And it's essential the party that has repeatedly tried to ban it keeps doing it until the party that historically abused it gets curb stomped so badly they cry uncle and agree to the ban. These are not contradictory positions to hold.

@Krissa_Kray_ If you have the cash lying around then sure, but then you probably wouldn’t have taken out a mortgage in the first place.

Can someone explain like I’m 5 why you shouldn’t pay off your home early if the rate is low? I have no idea why continuing to owe on something you can own outright is the “right strategy” - it’s interest you don’t have to pay in the long run… no matter how low the rate? Right?
The Money Cruncher, CPA@money_cruncher

My coworker has a 1.99% mortgage. That is something you should NEVER pay off early. Inflation is at least 3%/yr. Why would anyone pay that off aggressively? It makes absolutely 0 sense.

@ThomasJPinkCain It’s legal for adults to buy tobacco not because it’s good for their health, but because if it wasn’t legal they’d just buy it on the black market and it would be a bonanza for organized crime, and organized crime causes a lot of well known social problems.

@ThomasJPinkCain The truth is that most smokers smoked their first cigarette well before they turned 18, when it was illegal for them to buy tobacco anyway. Most people who make it to 18 never having smoked a cigarette won’t start smoking once they’re adults.

“They apologized for voting for him why won’t you accept that?” Did they say they’d vote blue from now on? Did they renounce the bigotry, misogyny, bullying, ugliness, the crass venality, and an insurrection? No? Well then no. I don’t accept their grubby little apology.

@DolomiteMick If it's a no tobacco ever for people born after that date it's a poorly written bill.

@ThomasJPinkCain People born in 2009 still won’t be able to buy tobacco products after they turn 18 next year.

@BrendanCarrFCC @DolomiteMick Someone needs to speak with John Deere. They’ve outsourced their IT dept to I’m guessing India, could barely understand them and them me. Frustrating when so many are doing this. The issue was never resolved due to language. @JohnDeere

I think the free market already ensures that American call center employees speak English. Purely from a business perspective, hiring non-English speakers to support English-speaking customers over the phone is a complete waste of money and a stupid business decision.
Brendan Carr@BrendanCarrFCC

The National Retail Federation says they oppose the FCC’s call center proposal. The FCC’s proposal would require operators to speak English and disclose the country they’re located in while onshoring call center jobs. They say this will cost overseas jobs. What do you think ?

@PamelaSedmak What does having call center employees who literally speak no English accomplish? They might as well just not have a call center - that would be cheaper.

@BrendanCarrFCC @DolomiteMick He has not often, if at all. Apple is the best at having English as a first language for customer service reps. Probably above 95% in my experience.

@BrendanCarrFCC I haven't run into that problem. A problem I did recently run into was calling my apartment building's leasing office and speaking to an AI system that refused to connect me to a maintenance person.
