Six months ago, I faced a five person panel interview. After multiple rounds of phone screenings and exams that lasted for six weeks, this was the final in person stage.
This wasn’t just any job. The pay was excellent, but what really drove me was the realization that if I landed this position, I could retire in ten years. I loved the role that much. So I went all out in my preparation, and it showed.
About minutes into the interview, I had the entire panel engaged, everyone except one person. She was a woman about my age with a completely flat affect. Her expression was impossible to read. she had a perfect poker face.
Then she finally spoke. Her question was a tough one, but fortunately, I was ready for it. In fact, it was almost magical, she asked it word for word exactly as I had written it in my notepad.
She said, “I see from your resume that you’re military trained with active experience in ICU, ER, Psyc and MedSurg. You have everything… except the experience needed for this job.”
I didn’t rush. I took a deep breath, and a slight, sheepish smile formed at the corner of my mouth. In my head, I thought, Welcome to the party.
Out loud, I replied calmly, "Thank you for that question, Mrs. [Her Name].”
The moment I said her name, I saw her relax for the first time.
“Yes, you’re right, I don’t have direct experience in this specific position. But the last five years have built me precisely for this question and this role.”
I wrapped it up by saying, “I want to be the best registered nurse I can possibly be. To achieve that, I believe I need this experience. This is the final piece of the puzzle, and I’m convinced I’m in the right place, with the right people, to make it happen.”
She listened to everything, paused for a moment, and simply said, “Oh… thank you.”
That was it.
Last Thursday, I received the job offer, everything exactly as I had dreamed. And guess who volunteered to train me?
Yes… it was her.
Challenge accepted.

A 42-year-old woman, Olatunde Funke, who was earlier declared missing in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been found in a hotel in Ugbe-Akoko, Akoko North-East Local Government Area, under circumstances that have stirred reactions across the state.
Her disappearance had initially triggered widespread concern among residents and family members after she reportedly left her matrimonial home without any prior notice. According to sources, her husband raised the alarm shortly after discovering her absence, prompting fears that she may have been abducted or harmed.
Ilara-Mokin and Ugbe-Akoko are separated by a distance of about 124 kilometres, with an estimated travel time of approximately two hours and forty minutes, making the development even more puzzling to those involved in the search.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed to Roving Reporters that the situation caused significant panic within the community.
“Her sudden disappearance created serious tension. Family members and residents feared the worst and immediately began efforts to locate her,” the source said.
However, investigations later revealed that the woman was not kidnapped as initially suspected. Security operatives, acting on intelligence, traced her to a hotel in Ugbe-Akoko where she was found in the company of a 55-year-old man identified as Isa Alaba.
“She left on her own without informing anyone. She was eventually located in the hotel with the man,” the source added.
Further findings indicate that the woman has since been taken into protective custody while authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her actions and the events leading to her disappearance.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, noted that the incident led to the deployment of security resources under the assumption that it was a possible case of abduction.
“This kind of situation creates avoidable alarm. Resources meant for genuine emergencies were mobilised because people feared a serious crime had occurred,” he said.
The police spokesperson used the opportunity to caution residents against actions capable of misleading authorities or causing unnecessary panic, particularly in cases involving missing persons.
He also stressed the importance of communication within families, noting that many such situations could be prevented through dialogue and timely information sharing.
“There is a need for better communication, especially among couples. Issues like this can often be resolved through dialogue or family intervention instead of escalating into public concern,” Abayomi added.

From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many terrorist fighters and commanders. The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation.
I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country in Borno State.
The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain. Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever.
I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: Do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged.
Our officers and men should continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism. The government will always stand by the Armed Forces, provide more of the equipment needed and ensure the welfare of all who risk their lives for our safety.
I urge Nigerians and the media to continue to support our Military in their relentless battle against insurgency and banditry. We should desist from celebrating or condoning the attacks against our troops. These soldiers are our heroes; unforgettable and irreplaceable.
My condolences also go to the government and people of Borno State. The Federal Government will continue to work with the state government to achieve total victory and lasting peace.
