The New Redesigned Tesla Semi is BADASS. Here’s a summary from Jay Leno’s new video on it: • 1,000 lbs weight reduction vs previous Gen. • 7% aero dynamic efficiency improvement. • 0.4 Drag Coefficient • Independent truckers are able to buy a Semi for use, not just fleet owners • Semi doesn’t use unique tires. Off the shelf tires will work. • Just like passenger Tesla vehicles, the Semi has regenerative braking. • Tesla Semi fleet (few hundred trucks) have driven more than 13.5M miles. • Tesla’s lead truck has 440,000 miles on the odometer. • Semi fleet uptime is up 95% uptime due to extremely low maintenance and reliability. • 75-80% of Semi breakdowns are resolved and returned to the customer in less than 24 hours. • Tesla has integrated safety features in the Semi to protect not just the driver, but others on the road as well. • Tesla is working on Semi Wireless Charging, so drivers can just drive over a pad and automatically charge. • Semi went from a hydraulic assist steering system, to now a fully electric assist steering system (not steer-by-wire). • Semi uses Cybertruck steering actuators, but beefed up. • Semi is now has a 48V Architecture • Semi uses the same 4680 cells found in Cybertruck. • The battery in Semi is designed to last 1M miles. • Two variants of Semi: 500 mi range & 325 mi range • Semi can power a whole refrigeration trailer or any powered unit. The technology is shared with Cybertruck Powershare. • Semi has two rear axles. One for torque, which is geared for acceleration, while the second one is geared for efficiency. This eliminated the need of a two-speed transmission. (Impressive!) • The turning radius in the Semi Standard (325 mi range) is about the same as a Model 3/Y. Truly an incredible piece of engineering, congrats @danWpriestley and team! I can’t wait to see these all over.

@teslaeurope @OlivierGolf Well done UNECE for making it near impossible for progress on road safety in Europe! This is the level of craziness and hoops you make manufacturers have to jump through to prove your idea of Safety, half the people making the UNECE R-171 policy have NEVER even driven with FSD!

Together with RDW, we have officially completed the final vehicle testing phase for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) and have submitted all documentation required for the UN R-171 approval + Article 39 exemptions. The RDW team is now reviewing the documentation and test results package internally. They have communicated the expected approval for Netherlands date of 4/10, shifting from 3/20 previously and we look forward to successful completion of this cooperation.  Following the Netherlands’ approval, European countries will be able to recognize this approval nationally. We are anticipating a possible EU-wide approval during the summer. Over the past 18 months, this approval has involved a series of intense documentation, development, testing, research & audits. Including but certainly not limited to: – 1,600,000+ km of FSD (Supervised) testing on EU roads – 13,000+ customer sales ride-alongs – 4,500+ track test scenario executions – Thousands of pages of written documentation for 400+ compliance requirements – Dozens of research studies into safety performance/results We're extremely proud of the work conducted with the RDW team up until this point. We very much look forward to the approval in April, and sharing FSD (Supervised) with our patient EU customers!

I see some people incorrectly claiming that the Tesla Semis 500 mile range isn't enough. Average daily miles: • Long-haul drivers: 400-600 miles • Regional drivers: 300-500 miles • Local/delivery drivers: 100-300 miles Not every Class 8 semi runs near the full 80,000–82,000 lb limit. The Tesla Semi’s 500-mile range is based on an 82k gross weight, so carrying lighter loads, like 30k or 40k lbs for example, will extend range beyond 500 miles. Longer routes are also sometimes shaped by FMCSA Hours of Service rules, which cap driving at 11 hours in a 14-hour window, meaning drivers typically wouldn't exceed ~600 miles per day anyway. Drivers must also take a 30-minute break after 8 hours, during which the Tesla Semi can recharge up to about 60% of its range at a Megacharger. The Long Range Tesla Semi will be good for longer routes, while the Standard Range with 325 miles of range will be great for more local/regional deliveries. Transportation is the largest source of emissions in the U.S. at 28%. The Tesla Semi will not only save operators money over time, especially if you include state incentives, but the truck will be much better for air quality. PepsiCo has been testing Tesla Semis for the past few years. They said that the drivers who operate the company's Tesla Semis have reported that they don't want to go back to driving a diesel truck.

Tesla has unveiled the final production specifications for the Semi, ahead of the official deliveries later this year 🔥 Here is how the 2026 production version compares to the prototype unveiled in 2017: 1️⃣ The "missing" motor (4 vs. 3) The biggest hardware change is the move from four motors to three. 🚚 2017: The prototype used four Model 3 motors (two on each rear axle) to ensure redundancy and power. 🚛 Production: The final version uses a tri-motor setup (likely derived from the Model S/X Plaid). One motor is efficient for highway cruising, while the other two engage for torque and acceleration. This reduces weight and parts complexity without sacrificing the ability to haul 82k lbs. 2️⃣ Charging speed 🚚 In 2017, Tesla claimed "Megachargers" would add 400 miles of range in 30 minutes. 🚛 The production specs now state it recovers 60% of range in 30 minutes. ℹ️ For a 500-mile truck, 60% is 300 miles. ⚠️ This is a reduction from the original "400 miles in 30 mins" claim, likely reflecting the realities of thermal management during megawatt-level charging. 3️⃣ The weight 🚚 The 2017 event promised payload capacity similar to diesel trucks but didn't give a curb weight. 🚛 The production specs finally answer the "weight penalty" question: - Standard Range: < 20,000 lbs - Long Range: ~23,000 lbs ℹ️ For context, a typical diesel Class 8 semi-tractor weighs between 16,000 and 17,000 lbs. Tesla is coming in heavier, but the gap is smaller than many critics expected for a battery-electric truck.
