@Ulrich__Kaiser That was a fast and efficient process. I got those rejection letters sometimes two years later, moving to different places in the meantime. Always promised myself to do better once I get the opportunity to hire people.

Brief academic story from 🇩🇪: March 2002: I am encouraged to apply for a job in 🇩🇪. I apply. Juni 2002: job talk. July 2002: requested to send PhD and high school diploma ➡️IN ORIGINAL ⬅️. Ja. 2003: original documents are returned, learned I didn't get the job. Nobody did.

Brief academic story. July 2022: I am encouraged to apply for a job in Germany. I apply. February 2023: A semi-cryptic email invites me to send more documents to be considered as part of the short list. Documents are essentially the same as sent in 2022, but yeah ok fine.

@Ulrich__Kaiser I thought with an ERC application you already have to state the host institution? And not sure why this would automatically lead to W3 then. But hey, happy for someone out there

@ENTvantage Someone won an ERC grant (five years fully funded w/ PhD/postdoc) and can now choose where to locate. Person chose Freiburg and Freiburg now has to follow the protocol to hire the person. At least that's what I believe happened here.

Who is the lucky ERC grant winner whose position is advertised here uni-freiburg.de/university/job…? "The prerequisite for granting the position is that the person to be appointed is funded in an individual, highly competitive third-party funding program or funding format."
