A UN Convention will help us to act, advocate and empower. For this #GlobalRally I write about why a convention for older people matters to #socialwork @IFSW tinyurl.com/3nnzsfwz

Our #GlobalRally2026 kicks off today - a week of coordinated global mobilisation for the #AgeWithRights campaign. We are insisting on older people's full participation in the drafting of the UN convention at all stages. Repost to show your solidarity! #EqualVoicesEqualRights

Why a Global Rally? Because older people must have equal voice and participation in drafting the new UN convention. Older people's rights must be respected. Join us from 1-7 February! #AgeWithRights #EqualVoicesEqualRights

Happy International Day of Older Persons! 🔵IPA recognizes the powerful role older adults play as drivers of progress and change. This year’s theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being and Our Rights” aligns with our mission to empower this vital population. 🔵We celebrate their contributions to a more equitable and resilient world, from health advocacy to human rights. 🔵The day was established by the United Nations to acknowledge the rapid growth of the global aging population and to promote supportive, healthy environments for all. This aligns with our mission to ensure that older adults have the tools and support to maintain their functional capacity and participate fully in society. This day is a powerful reminder that with proper care and support, older persons can remain active, independent, and vital contributors to their communities. 🌐f.mtr.cool/wtyihqwnze

New #SocialWork with older people blog to share @BASW_UK conference workshop on Challenging Ageism Together. "We can call out ageism in the way social work is delivered, resist it in how we relate to people of different ages and refuse to internalise it." tinyurl.com/z5bm7jt

Thank you for highlighting the importance of #socialwork to people in our communities and the need to support social workers in their work to uphold human rights, as they did throughout Covid.
BASW@BASW_UK

📺 This morning, BASW gave evidence to @covidinquiryuk module on adult social care. As the only UK social work organisation with core participant status, we used our platform to champion social workers and advocate to policy-makers for critical improvements for the profession.

Ending the 2 child limit is the most cost effective way to get child poverty falling this parliament, and it’s also the right thing to do. As the government considers its approach to welfare, here’s what the latest research from @moreincommon_ shows: x.com/katieschmuecke…
Katie Schmuecker@KatieSchmuecker

The child poverty strategy is a moment to signal serious intent to tackle poverty and hardship. It must be complemented by halting the disability benefit cuts that will drive up poverty. They have been noticed and are unpopular (see bottom right quadrant)
