Now, if we could just get @CNN to admit that COVID IS STILL HERE, still airborne, still infecting something like 100,000 people daily, still causing long COVID, still causing brain damage, etc. That would be great.

@SalvMattera What a great analogy. Brava. Sadly, this has been the plight of chronic illness for decades before SARS-CoV-2. The doctors that were willing to try to uncover root cause were integrated or functional medicine doctors. Sadly the majority of them don’t take prevention seriously

Last year when my wife was hospitalized, I fed my daughter McDonald's happy meals for dinner every night for 3 weeks straight. Given what was going on in my life at the time, my options were that, frozen food, or let her go hungry. I never once thought that chicken nuggets and french fries were going to be her dinner forever. I was making the best I could of a bad situation until things improved. In many ways, this is where we're at with Long COVID treatments - we're eating McDonald's for dinner every night because its an emergency. But when the emergency ends (and it's within our power to find a way to end it) we can move past this to better, more sustainable solutions. Or we could, but some people are deeply confused and think eating McDonald's is the solution. Eating McDonald's, in this analogy, means experimenting with off-label treatments. I did it myself for a long time. I'm not opposed to it. I just know that it's not a solution. If you think about it for more than a minute, this is obvious: anecdotal reports are all over the place, many people try dozens and dozens of treatments and find no relief or even get worse. No one understands why. The most rational assumption is that most of the relief people report from these treatments is placebo, regression to the mean, or the natural ups and downs of the illness. The sustainable meal, in this analogy, is biomarkers and mechanisms. I think off-label experimentation can co-exist with actual research on those things if people don't lose sight of the limitations. If they do, then it poses a threat in a few different ways: 1. It creates noisy observational data that muddles the signal and it wastes research dollars. Anecdotal reports on Reddit and Facebook get turned into flawed studies of the latest fad that waste research dollars. 2. It diffuses urgency. "We're treating patients, progress is happening" becomes a comfortable lie. 3. It fuels the diagnostic absorption of Long COVID. Dissolve it into a matter of individualized, personal medicine and suddenly it is an individual's problem rather than an ongoing pandemic that requires a coordinated response.

It is surreal to see how much more honest the media was about Covid related health issues and death just a few years ago

We often bump up against a friendship wall of with covid. Today a friend told me "Covid is over." The reason given was that "I never get sick." Lovely person, educated, fun, beloved and once again, that hope for a unicorn friend is put on hold.

@drseanmullen I firmly believe that until we as a community figure out a way to get physicians, nurses, general practitioners, pediatricians, cardiologists, oncologists, & neurologists to understand damage + mitigations we have no chance. Then comes teachers & unions. You can’t fight “my dr”
